Restaurants in Philadelphia

I just found out that I will shortly be going to Philadelphia for work (having never been there before) and will be going to a big group dinner on a Monday night. I thought that, since I am the newest person that will be travelling, I would like to suggest a place that might be nice for everyone (since there might be people that hate a certain food, or don't - for whatever reason - like sushi nearly as much as I do :)

Are there any good places to go, that aren't too expensive (although I would have really liked to try Morimoto), that might cater to a variety of people? I would love to hear any suggestions!

i recently went to Amada - a tapas joint that was delicious! i would recommend it to anyone going to philly

isn't it required by law that you get a cheese steak? haha.

Pat's King of Steaks
1237 E. Passyunk Avenue
Philadelphia, PA 19147

My favorites ---

Fork - http://www.forkrestaurant.com
Definitely upscale but also very simple, delicious food

Ralph's Italian Restaurant - http://www.ralphsrestaurant.com
The most famous Italian restaurant in Philadelphia - not too expensive and great atmosphere/food. (It's worth noting that they also only take cash.)

White Dog Cafe - http://www.whitedog.com/
On UPenn's campus - moderately priced, wonderful seasonal food, very vegetarian friendly. They also have nice private dining rooms for big groups. La Terasse (http://www.laterrasserestaurant.com/) is a wonderful french bistro a few doors down, I've also been there with large groups and had a great experience.

I've never been but I've also heard great things about Buddakan. And I recommend Tony Luke's for cheesesteaks, although I would certainly never turn down Pat's either! :-)

I love this place! I had my birthday there a few years ago- lunch is great too! (hope the link works....)

I like Genos which is right across the street from Pat's. It is a great place to go at 2 am
I also say get a soft pretzel its the water that is perfect.
Get to Terminis Italian bakery and have a cannoli.
I like white dog for lunch but not for dinner try the fresh made to order guac it is amazingly good.

If I read your post correctly, you want to recommend a restaurant for a large group on a Monday evening for dinner. I don't think you're looking for cheesesteaks. I agree that the White Dog is more for lunch.
The url below is from Philly.com and you can search for exactly what you need, regarding cuisine, price, Monday (when some are closed), attire, etc., and you'll get a list of fine restaurants that meet your criteria. If you narrow it down, then ask for recommendations.

I have never been, but I know Iron Chef Morimoto has a restaurant in Philadelphia. If I were you, I'd check it out: http://www.mytravelguide.com/restaurants/profile-35835405-United_States_Pennsylvania_Philadelphia_Morimoto_Restaurant.html.

Chew on That

You know, I wanted to try Morimoto's place, but I think that that might be too niche for a larger group. Maybe I can sneak there on my way back if I get a chance, though, because I would love to try it!

Thank you so much, PerkyMac, I will definitely check that site out. That sounds like exactly what I would be looking for!

Philadelphia Magazine puts out a "Best Of" issue every year. Here is a list of restaurants that made the list, with a foodie's review of each. Gives lots of info.

Highly recommend The Saloon on 7th Street in south Philly. Despite the name, it's an old school Italian place specializing in traditional fare - clams, mussels, daily pasta specials, chicken/veal, plus the steaks, huge and always sizzling on the platter, are exceptional. Make a resv, it's always packed.

Try the Terrace Street Bistro in Manayunk/Roxborough. I also highly recommend Monk's (264 S 16th St).
