Mustard? Or Ketchup?
Following along the lines of that horribly difficult question earlier, forcing us to choose between cereal or eggs, what about this one? This has probably been asked before, but I haven't seen it, and perhaps your tastes (like mine) have changed.
I used to hate mustard and would not go near it, and loved ketchup. But now, if I had to choose only one of them forever, I would easily saw mustard. I especially like the grainy mustards over the standard fare, which make even my most mundane sandwich really tasty.
Following that, too, what types of ketchup/mustard do you prefer?

Mustard, totally. Is this even a question??? I almost never use ketchup and would never miss it if it were to completely vanish from the face of the earth.
I love almost any form of mustard. Good ol' yellow is used most frequently, but I always have a minimum of two other varieties on hand, usually more. I'm never without a good, authentic Dijon (and I'm very picky about it... no grey poop-on for me). I usually have a deli-style brown, or a coarse grained one, too. I love jalapeno mustard. I almost always have horseradish in the house, and I'm known to mix it with deli mustard.
I don't much care for sweet mustards (honey, etc.). My most favorite mustard of all is Chinese hot mustard or English mustard.
Also, there is always Coleman's dry mustard in the spice drawer. I use it to make English mustard, and for a dry rub on beef (among other things).

I like a little mustard (French's) on burgers, but I'll have to take the ketchup (Heinz is fine) just because of french fries. That is, unless I move to Canada, where they put vinegar, gravy or cheese on fries.

a few years ago i would have said mustard could go and i wouldn't miss it. but then i discovered the utter deliciousness of mustard vinaigrette, and now i couldn't live without my nightly salad dressed with sherry vinegar, walnut oil, and dijon mustard.
i use maille dijon mustard and heinz catsup and please don't make me choose between them because i just can't!!!

I grew up in a house where we had 13 mustards at least at all times. Here it is the same. I just buy mustards whenever the mood grabs me.
I like different mustards for different things. I also like ketchup and we buy it in huge grnormous size containers. I often enhance the ketchup when I cook with it.

Ketchup, totally. Is this even a question??? ;-)
I only eat mustard as part of deviled eggs, but I put ketchup on pretty much any kind of sandwich.

ketchup is the bastard step child of my fridge..saved just for guests who insist upon it's presence at the BBQ- oh and maybe for meatloaf.
and how many times have I opened the fridge & asked myself
"Why do we NEED this many types of mustard?"
but I bought 'em all...so Jerzee I hear ya loud & clear. 13 types- indeed!
mustard wins again!

Heintz ketchup wins over any mustard!

I love sandwiches with mayo, mustard or both. Never yellow - tastes like too much vinegar. My favorite is spicy brown for sandwiches and hot dogs. I use Dijon for cooking and salad dressings, dry for deviled eggs and rubs and grainy when I want a really strong flavor. Nowhere near 13 in my fridge - wouldn't have room! You beat me Jerzee. I have 4 (keep yellow for guests).
I don't use ketchup as often, so I'd have to choose mustard.

Is this even a question........both just as much!!

I rarely use ketchup but I also rarely eat foods that would utilize it.
Mustard, grainy and with bite.

Canadians use ketchup too! Yes, sometimes we use those other things, but ketchup is allowed. :) I actually think poutine (gravy and cheese curds on fries) is pretty disgusting, I like my fries crisp, not wet.
I am having a hard time with this question. I am actually an American citizen but a Canadian permanent resident, hence I grew up with plenty of ketchup and I love it. That said, I also love mustard and would guess we have about five different kinds in our fridge. Including the huge jar of Maille.
I guess I could live without ketchup. I'd put chipotle or curry mayo on fries instead, I guess.

If I don't have Colman's English mustard, I can live without mustard. If I don't have Heinz, I can live without ketchup as well. So if it were Colman's vs any other ketchup (not Heinz), or Heinz vs any other mustard (not Colman's), the winner would be clear. But Colman's mustard vs. Heinz ketchup....it's a conundrum:-).
While I do not ever touch ketchup that is not Heinz, I do use other types of mustard for cooking - I love whole-grain or dijon-style mustards in salad dressings over mixed greens, I love whole-grain mustard in mustard sauces, etc., but whenever it comes to using mustard "straight up" (meaning not mixed with anything, not straight off the knife, although I've done that too:-)), it will always be Colman's.

I think mustard can be the perfect ingredient some times. Hotdogs love mustard. Cheese loves mustard. There's a mustard seed cheddar out there that tastes a year older than it is due to that mustardy tang. And if you don't add some mustard in with your bechamel when you make mac and cheese, you are missing out big time.
I feel like ketchup is often just a low rent substitute for something good. Pad Thai For The Weak replaces the irreplaceable Sriracha with ketchup. BBQ sauce is universally better for meaty applications. I really only use ketchup with fries and in a couple of lazy day salad dressings.

That's a tough one. On one hand, what is a cheeseburger or fries with Heinz ketchup? On the other, any pork product sandwich or hot dog or grilled cheese or whatever has no meaning without Pommery Mustard w/Green Peppercorns (a mustard so delicious I can just stick a spoon in and lick it like peanut butter). And then, so many salad dressings with mustard in them. I think that as tough as it is, I'd dump the ketchup and keep the mustard. Most ketchup applications can be replaced. Vinegar on fries (yum), chili sauce and mayo on burgers, etc. There's just no way to find something that will replace the awesome tang of a really good mustard.
You know this is the first time a question like this has been posited where it was actually tough to decide.

Ketchup!! I put it on everything (hot dogs, hamburgers, fries) so I don't think I could live without it.
