Mixed nuts...
A big bowl of mixed nuts is sitting in front of you. You are only allowed to eat one nut. Which one would you choose?
(This nightmarish scenario popped into my head when I grabbed a small handful of mixed nuts at 3:30 p.m. to hold me to dinner, having forgotten to eat the first bite of a single thing today. I adore nuts. I can't remember a single type I haven't loved. But, I'm thinking I'd pick a cashew. Then again, I might just slit my wrists instead.)

You scenario is pure torture for me!! I'm thinking cashew...or maybe a pecan...could be a toasted almond or maybe I'd go for a brazil nut:)

Hazelnut, if it's there, and if not, cashew.

Jeez . . . what a cruel moment . . . a cashew.

I'd definitely go for an almond first, and my absolute last choice would be a brazil nut!

bisbee at 8:35PM on 01/08/08

moibec at 8:42PM on 01/08/08
cashew or macadamia, and they're not there, a walnut.

Are there Brazil nuts? Totally Brazil nuts, no question about it.
sheeats at 10:39PM on 01/08/08
Ooooh, the horror! I truly hope I will never ever be in this situation...But if I am forced to choose just one, it would be pistachio nuts. I think. :-)
brooke29 at 10:54PM on 01/08/08
Only one? It might not be worth eating just one because that would just make me want to eat more. But if I had to I'd pick a peanut.
Gordon Mark at 11:36PM on 01/08/08
I hope this never actually happens...Salted pistachios or maybe Brazil nuts/walnuts. Gee.
Christina at 12:46AM on 01/09/08
toasted nuts? the almond. untoasted? walnut.
tudogostoso at 1:25AM on 01/09/08
I think I'd go for a pistachio...if they were really...good...pistachios.
fuuchan at 1:56AM on 01/09/08
Those small in-the-skin spanish peanuts... not a difficult choice, I'm a bit indifferent about the other nuts, anyway.
mongoose at 3:16AM on 01/09/08
Cashews, pistachios & macadamia.....OH MY!!!
RichardCrystal at 8:37AM on 01/09/08
Hmmm...almond, if none there...Brazil.
radley24 at 9:31AM on 01/09/08
Almonds, then pecans, then hazelnut. Cashews and brazil nuts would be my last choices. Walnuts fall somewhere in between.
AuntJone at 10:14AM on 01/09/08
Cashews or pistachios...

First would probably be a cashew, second choice would be pistachio or almond.
jmoilanen at 11:48AM on 01/09/08
Ranking best to worst (with a few possible ties):
Pistachio
Almond
Cashew
Pecan
Macadamia
Peanut
Brazilnut
Hazlenut
Walnut

If I had to pick one nut to eat forever, I would pick almonds (since they are pretty much a part of my daily diet) however, in a bowl of mixed nuts I adore cashews and macadamias and dig them out first if given the chance. Okay-decision time-cashews take it by a hair!
psychsarah at 1:16PM on 01/09/08
Brazil Nuts. Failing that, cashews and failing that, almonds.
Traveller at 1:29PM on 01/09/08
What a great question!! I'd say the cashews!
Walnuts leave a funny taste in my mouth, and pecans are only good among other nuts. Peanuts or almonds would probably be the second choice, but cashews all the way!
