Iron Chef and You

So, I was bored the other night and ended up watching Iron Chef America (far inferior to the Japanese original) and only stuck to watching it, because it was Moritmoto. So, I started to wonder - if you could be in the competition, and you cuold pick the chef to go against, who would it be and why? And if there is one secret ingredient that you would either love, or utterly dread to work with, what would that be?

For me, I would love to be against either Morimoto (honestly, the best chef that this version has) or Chen from the Japanese version. I would be scared to death to get something like see urchin or eel. I love making desserts, and I doubt that I would be able to do that with those ingredients!

A few months ago my friends did a local version of Iron Chef. It was hysterical and yummy. Luckily, I was able to sit as a judge. If you have a little time on your hands you should check out one of the judge's blogs. He has a cooking blog called Kitchen Geeking at redneckmuppet.blogspot.com. He has detailed most of the experience with the exception of the competitor's recipes. It is located in his older posts. It was great. The secret ingredient...well I'll let you read about it.

I would go against Symon or Batali because they seem like they would be the most fun to also have in the kitchen.

As for a secret ingredient... I would like mango. Or lime. I think fruits would be the easiest to make good mains and obviously desserts. And since I'm not an overly accomplished chef in my kitchen, I need all the help I can get.

I guess lime would be a stupid ingredient, yeah? It's more of a condiment. It would be like having salt as the secret ingredient. Nevermind, I'll stick with mango.

I must admit that I enjoy Iron Chef America and don't really try to compare it with the original Iron Chef. They are completely different. I would chose to go against Symon or Flay just because I cheered for Symon to be the "Next Iron Chef" and Flay because I like his style of cooking and would love to have an opportunity to be in the same kitchen with him even in a competition.

I think I would choose Symon...I would love the secret ingredient to be potatoes or bacon and I would be horrified to get tripe or sea cucumber, wouldn't know where to begin with those!

I'd choose Cat Cora because I would have the easiest time beating her!

I choose Mario, because I do Italian and Spanish, too, and while I think he'd crush me, it'd be cool to see what he does. I'd choose wild duck as the secret ingredient - even with Mario's superior skills, I know my ducks and geese, so I'd at least have a chance.

Chen Kenichi is still my favorite Iron Chef. I always liked how he'd say, "I'm not very familiar with this ingredient" right before every competition and STILL completely dominate. The Japanese IC was great.

As for US, I'd go against Mario in hopes that I could try his food.

On the Japanese version I'd choose IC Sakai, just because he seems like such a fine person that I would like to meet him.

On Iron Chef America I'd go with Mario, for the same reason. (Plus he seems like he'd be the most fun off camera?)

I'd be way out of my league in either case, no matter what the secret ingredient was, so I'd pick something easy, like bacon.

SB (would love to play with the ice cream machine)
