Great Trader Joe's Story
I wanted to share a feel good story about everyone's favorite store, Trader Joe's. Last week, my 80 year old Grandmother went to Trader Joe's to get her weekly groceries. When she got to the checkout line and tried to pay for her food, ($80 approx.) her credit card went on the fritz! So, the cashier called over the manager and he pulled out his personal credit card and paid for her groceries with the promise " next time you come in, you can pay me back." Now I know why at our local Trader Joe's everyone is always smiling and happy. Has anyone else had this level of customer service at Trader Joe's or anywhere else for that matter?

Redner's in PA. Several years ago - total was close to $200. The manager paid from his own pocket and I had to offer my name, because he asked me no questions. He totally trusted that I would pay him back, or maybe he was doing his good deed and wouldn't have fretted too much if he got stiffed? I was so grateful, and it restored my faith. I put away the frozen and refrigerated food, then returned to the store. He had left! I left a check and later wrote to the company and told them how much I appreciated the superlative service of Mr........

We have always found the employees at our local TJ's very friendly and helpful, however along the same lines of your post I recently read about a Whole Foods giving away $4,000 in groceries due to a computer crash. Here's the link:

I have a crush on one of the guys at my Trader Joe's. I should have asked him over to try some of my hummus...

That's such a wonderful story, evilchefmom. It's good to know that there are still some decent people left in the world (and it's yet another reason I'm desperate for a Trader Joe's down here in Texas...) Thanks for sharing with us! :)

Trader Joes has a great morale. The hawaiian shirt relaxed fun place to work vibe is sucessful. I have never had a bad visit ever.
@PerkyMac you have to be around where I am we keep referencing the same places. Redners is an employee owned store and often is full of great people. I often go there to pick up a few things here and there.

I'm so fahrklempt! That is a perfect example of all the Trader Joe's. I've shopped there in 3 states and their service is always exemplary. Also, some of the associates actually call me by name! That's never happened in any of the large chain supermarkets.

What a great story! They are always so friendly and give you the benefit of the doubt. It's so easy to return things there, I'm more likely to try out something new. We have a great local chain in Sonoma County called Oliver's that we just love as well. It's always a pleasure to go in.

I have only had the opportunity to go to Trader Joe's once, but it is impressive. Now, friends pick up my favorites for me. There is a frozen mango dessert that is to die for. I could eat it in one sitting, so I only get it once or twice a year.
@JerzeeTomato: Hi neighbor! I was and still am a Jersey Girl (not born, but bred) at heart, truly. Are you in the frozen north? ha ha I grew up near Princeton, and also lived in SJ.

Wow - that's really awesome! Great call on the manager's part - look at what a good word you spread. That's worth his $80!
