Got Nutella? Hand me the Jar and a Spoon, Please.
I've been eating it straight out of the jar lately. Not a good idea for the waistline, right?
If you could please provide me some other--perhaps more rationed--ways of enjoying this delightful chocolate-hazelnut spread, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I eat it on Ritz crackers -- the buttery cracker and hazelnut-y spread are wonderful together. But, again, not very good for the waistline! :)

Check out foodnetwork.com - there are 3 pages of recipes. Giada has the most I would think because she is always using it.

Sorry, I don't know how to do the fancy links.

Well, I just spread it on everything I can:-). Try it on a toast, or with pancakes...mmm! Now, if you eat it on a whole-grain toast, it makes it good for the waistline, right?
brooke29 at 11:26PM on 01/23/08
On crepes! Or with jam in a sandwich!

I've only recently had my first jar of nutella & I'm hopelessly hooked! I also like the pb & nutella combo & have spread it on banana bread, too.

Take won ton wrappers, put a teaspoon of the good stuff in the middle of each and fold into triangles. Deep fry in oil for approximately 1 minute on each side (to desired brownness) and drain. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and/or honey.
These are best eaten while warm and gooey, but we make platters of these for parties and they are a huge hit.

BF made me a birthday cake last weekend and used whipped cream, Kahlua, Nutella and powdered sugar to make the icing. It was great! I recently made a Nutella Cheesecake and that was very good. I love the stuff straight from the spoon. (A guilty pleasure!)

Baking Bites blog has a recipe for Nutella Scrolls - they make up fast and are actually pretty good.
The recipe's at: http://bakingbites.com/2007/06/nutella-scrolls/

Heat it up in the microwave and use it on some good vanilla ice cream.
jasonbrink at 8:51AM on 01/24/08
it's great as a "sandwich" cookie filling. like a reverse oreo.
also, it is really really good on toasted sesame seed bread if you can find any (by which i mean a bread chock full of toasted sesame seeds, not a bread with sesame seeds sprinkled on top).
lexophile at 9:03AM on 01/24/08
Its good on pretzels too...
bobbob at 10:04AM on 01/24/08
Spead it thinly on macintosh apples or large banana slices...at least you're eating some fruit then, too!
savecara at 10:56AM on 01/24/08
I had a Nutella craving the other night but didn't want to just eat it out of the jar. My solution? Spread a really thick layer of it on a flour tortilla and then roll up the tortilla. It's awesome. (I only used a half a tortilla because I would have felt so guilty if I had eaten all that Nutella.)

Am I the only person who finds Nutella way overrated?
Strikes me as nothing more than a better-quality cookie filling or frosting being marketed as if it were real food. Nutella's first two ingredients are sugar and fat, and other than the 2g each of fiber and protein it contains, its nutritional profile looks a lot like frosting, too:
Nutella - 200 calories, 11g fat, 23g carbs (20g sugars)
Betty Crocker Coconut Pecan - 140 cal, 7g fat, 19g carbs (17g sugars)
It just doesn't taste all that great to me. I'd much rather eat a piece of high-quality chocolate filled with hazelnut, or spread some all-natural nut butter on my bread or crackers.
I guess I just don't get it... it's happened before... I'm sure it'll happen again!

Nutella + banana on whole wheat toast, grilled on a panini press - the warmth makes everything oozy and so good :)
mrsbao at 3:28PM on 01/24/08
I like it from the spoon as well...I like it on whole grain toast....vanilla ice cream

Giada De Laurentiis has a whole collection of recipes using Nutella...
pick your favorite one.
But I personally love it inside crepes - filled with Nutella and strawberries. Mmmmmmmm!!!!!
Ahh - and over ice cream too.

I'm with savecara - try spreading it on a McIntosh apple!
Also - I put a couple of tablespoons into my chocolate mousse recipe. Not exactly waistline-friendly, but YUMMY.

This question comes at a good time - we're doing World Nutella Day again on February 5th - last year there were a lot of good recipes!
You guys should participate!

LoCo, I do too. I've had half a jar just sitting there while now. I don't even remember what I used the other half for...some recipe I suppose. Lol, it's sooo bad for you! I'd rather get all those calories and fat from something else.
I don't think you could actually make a "healthy" snack out of it but perhaps if you warm it up it would be easy to spread a very small amount on some fruit.
alyssazor at 2:06PM on 01/25/08
i don't love nutella enough to eat it straight from the jar. the taste has gotten "old" to me. i might enjoy some now though...maybe warmed and drippy and used as a dip for strawberries.
stumbler02 at 3:35PM on 01/25/08
Giada De Laurentis swooned on and on about it, so I tried it. Once. It sits in my fridge, with one teaspoonful removed. I should let it come to room temp and try it on something - maybe apple slices. The chocolate flavor wasn't strong enough for me, and the hazlenut was barely discernible.
PerkyMac at 6:30PM on 01/25/08
Found this in Adams' S'mores: Gourmet treats for every occasion: Take poundcake (I made the recipe in Berenbaum's Cake Bible), butter and brown 2 slices (think grilled cheese). Spread Nutella on one piece of poundcake, then 2 toasted marshmallows, and top with the other buttered-and-browned slice of poundcake.
You truly don't need "s'more," this is a seriously filling dessert. We made it for New Year's....

2 things...1. peanut butter cookie dough (in a bag), make one big cookie, top with nutella. 2. waffles.
mbbeamer32 at 5:01PM on 01/26/08
Spread it on a Maria Cookie. They are little round biscuit cookies. I think they are from Spain. Yummy and when I eat that I kid myself into thinking its a low-cal treat! Just don't slather on the nutella too thick
