Food related wedding favors
I am planning a wedding in the Hudson Valley region in June of this year. For my favors, I really want to give away something indiginous of the region and the season. I've been thinking along the lines of small jars of honey or jam or something. But I would also be open to baked goods, like macaroons, or other little specialties. I'm looking for something in the $2 range, which might be tough. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

I'm not especially into the wedding favor thing, personally. Sometimes it all gets so over the top. That said, I think it is nice to serve a local specialty at the wedding and then give out packets of recipe cards with that recipe and other favorite recipes of the couple.

I like the local honey idea. You could find a poem or verse about honey & attach it to the jar. Also honey never "goes bad" and is "always sweet"- kind of a nice "tie -in" to a wedding. Good luck and congratulations!

Friends of ours used seed packets -- an heirloom seed for a local specialty would be lovely. Theirs had very pretty vintage artwork on them.

Where are you getting married? I think I responded to your last post. I was married up there too. It is a lovely area. I love the seed packet idea. I am trying to remember what we used.

For my son's wedding (we too live in the Hudson Valley) I offered to pay for small wrapped boxes of handmade chocolates from a favorite local confectionary (Vasilow's in Hudson). The guests were really delighted with them - there were 4 to a box - and I think the price came in at around $2-3 per box. They were elegantly wrapped and we were even able to get the boxes printed with the b & g's names and the date.
I've also been to a wedding where the mother-in-law made over 100 jars of strawberry jam to give out - truly a labor of love.

handmade truffles or nice jordan almonds... they now come in such pretty colors. I like them a lot, even if they might seem old-fashioned. Just give them away in a pretty modern tin. The nice thing is they keep for a while, so you can create your favors with a little time ahead and not wait until the last minute.
look at martha stewart weddings magazines for loads of ideas... they always have very chic stuff.

the last wedding i went to, the wedding theme was based around tea. the reception was at a tea store, the colors were browns and tans ... and for the party favors, we got mugs with packets of tea in them.

This is an old topic so although I am late to this party I thought I would pass on the information anyways :). I was just recently at two weddings that had food/drink related favors. One of them was these elegantly wrapped packages of toffee. The stuff was absolutely delicious (I'm the pig that opened it and ate it at the reception) and was really displayed nicely. It was made by a company called Truly Toffee as their label on the bottom had a plug to their website.
The second wedding I went to had little packs of coffee packaged in like a burlap sack. It was cute too. The toffee one was by far the nicer of the two (the nicest I have ever seen to be honest) but after doing my research the coffee was a little cheaper. I think it was like 4 bucks for each favor for the toffee and like 3 for the coffee.
They were both really nice though.
