DC on a budget...
I know there's been a bunch of queries on the DC area but am curious to know where the "Must Not Miss" places intersect with the "Won't Break the Bank" places? We are headed there at the end of Feb to celebrate my 30th birthday so we might also be up for one (minor) slurge meal...

Opps - forgot to include that any great Pre-Fixe suggestions would also be very welcome!

I'd check the other threads for splurge suggestions, as well as some less expensive/cheap eats. My suggestions would be Malaysia Kopitiam (Malaysian food in Dupont Circle), Aditi (Indian in Georgetown), 2Amys (great pizza in Cleveland Park, fun atmosphere. people complain about it being busy, but that's really only a problem if you go there on Friday or Saturday night, or Sunday around noon. Otherwise, there's no wait at all), Faryab in Bethesda (Afghan, I recommend the vegetarian eggplant dish, or anything with stewed eggplant in it), Meskerem (Ethiopian in Adams Morgan), and Cactus Cantina (tex mex in Cleveland Park).
Also, check out the Washingtonian's "Cheap Eats" page

C.F.Folks is a pretty good cheap eats place for lunch. It's on 19th, a few blocks south of Dupont Circle.

Yes, Palena, in the cafe. Divine. If you want to read more, we blogged about it here: http://stlouiseats.typepad.com/st_louis_eats_and_drinks_/2007/06/washington_dc_1.html

Jose Andres' Jaleo is an awesome tapas restaurant. Won't break the bank and the cuisine is to die for. Really hip place also. Les Halles is the classic French Bistro - unbelievable food and great atmosphere - dim and very Frenchy-French with the frittes and foie gras and crepes suzette. C'est Manifique!
