Chocolate Brownie Cookies

I went to a wedding this weekend. Part of the weekend festivities was a brunch on Monday. Served at the brunch was a lot of great stuff. The most memorable element was a cookie. This was a cookie the size of a dessert plate. It was a cross between a brownie and cookie, with overtones of meringue...being a shiny, cracked surface. Inside was semi-gooey with chunks of walnuts and a hint of coffee. I suppose I could make life easy and just ask the hostess to get me the recipe from the caterer, but I thought I'd toss it out here.

These cookies are very similar to what you describe, although I make them a bit smaller than you mentioned.

Here's another version from Claudia Fleming:

Chocolate Brownie Cookies

Cook's Illustrated has a Triple Chocolate Cookie recipe that fits the bill too.

Bon Appetit published a recipe years ago for what they called "Chocolate Rads," exactly what you describe. I couldn't find it on Epicurious, but I think this is it:

I've used mint chocolate chips instead of regular in these, too -- YUM. Good luck!

maida heatter has a cookie like that called chocolate whoppers

The Cladia Fleming cookies are truly amazing.

oops, I meant Claudia, clearly.

All of these seem to fill the bill for me. I'll have to try them one by one. Actually, the Chocolate Rads seem most like what I had. They were indeed Chocolate and very rad. Thank you all! I'll report back.

Okay, I've tried my first batch. I made the Chocolate Rads. They are rich and chocolaty and quite delicious, but not the cookie from Florida. Those were darker, taller and chewier. I'm out of chocolate and the cost of eggs is so insane, I might wait to try the next batch. Here are some pictures.

There is a cookie that I am in love with from Whole Foods. It's called a Chocolate Chewie and it's low fat (yea, I KNOW!). It sounds similar to what you are talking about, but without walnuts. It's really good......

This might be what you're looking for - they're a little crispy ... and slightly chewy.

Brownie Top Cookies

Combine the following in a mixing bowl:
1 and 1/3 cups powdered sugar
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa
1 teaspoon espresso powder
Pinch of salt

Then add:
2 egg whites
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Beat well for about 2 minutes on medium speed.

Fold in:
2/3 cup toasted walnuts or pecans
1/3 cup chocolate pieces

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Drop batter onto 2 parchment paper lined cookie sheets. Allow room for cookies to spread, baking only 5 or 6 cookies on each sheet. Bake for about 15 minutes, until cookies become shiny and crinkly on top. Cool completely before peeling cookies off parchment. Yield: about 10 cookies.

These sound wonderful. The color and texture would probably be right on. But I'm guessing with the low fat content, these aren't what was served. I will, however, try them. Thanks.

We have some Peanut Butter Brownie Cookies but nothing like what you described from that wedding. They sound amazing though! Hope you find 'em!
