Boston Gem: Chocolate-Caramel Sea Salt tart at Canto 6

Having left New York's endless supply of culinary wonders for Boston's predictable generic parade of pubs, coffee shops and "fusion" restaurants, I often forget that there are gems to be found in Beantwon. Canto 6 bakery on Washington Street in Jamaica Plain has given me real hope. They have fabulous baguettes, sinfully sugary scones with creative combinations, and great fresh sandwiches. I bought a chocolate pecan pie here for Thanksgiving that was a huge hit. And so I'm a big booster of this place.

And then I tried their new chocolate caramel sea-salt tart. Run... don't walk to try it... this thing is amazing. A rich layer dense dark chocolate covers an unbelievably unctuous cavity-inducing caramel filling. The whole thing is topped with just a sprinkle of sea salt, which does able battle with the sweetness of the caramel. The crust is appropriately flaky and understated.

Canto 6 is on the corner of Washington and Green Street (a few blocks from the Green Street stop on the Orange Line).
