Anyone watching "Jamie at Home" on FN?
The Food Network has not been a huge favorite of late, but I am sitting here watching Jamie Oliver's new show and it's quite good. Very Alice Waters, using all food grown at his home and if this first episode is anything to go by, it seems like a winner. Geez, please don't think me a total wacko, but it's kind of porn for foodies! He's squishing these lovely ripe tomatos, peppers, onions, etc. with olive oil and then he tops it all off with bacon and sets it in to roast. Yum!

I was watching for the first few minutes... those stuffed peppers looked absolutely delicious. I think he may have been using the freshest produce I've ever seen. I wish this show was on Food Network in HD...
It was, to be perfectly honest, a little slow for my taste. Although I haven't been watching much of the Food Network recently other than my favorite Ace of Cakes.
What did you think?

I really liked Jamie's first show "Naked Chef" but didn't like any of his other shows and stopped paying attention to him. This show goes back to what made me like "Naked Chef" - basic ingredients, good food, and cute Jamie. Its also a rare brightspot on the food network.

I really enjoyed Naked Chef as well. So, I DVRed the new show last night. Will watch when I get home from work.

Love the show. Love what Jamie's all about. He reminds me of a younger version of James "The Urban Peasant" Barber.

He has always seemed like a slob to me.
I remember watching the naked chef as he would place his fingers/hands into the food he was making and then shove a bit in his mouth and then lick his fingers clean, repeatedly.
The whole thing is/was on par with watching someone across the table from you lick their fingers as they eat. No fun to watch in person and even less fun to watch on TV.

UGH. Forgot to record it! Thanks for the reminder. TVFN has a habit of airing things ad nauseum so I'm sure I'll be able to catch an ep.

Last night's ep was just a sneak peek. The series premiere happens January 12th.

It's been on Canadian Food Network for a couple of years now. I like the show a lot - especially his outdoor oven!

Sometimes in the past, his shows would be a little slow for me also, but this one wasn't that way for me, at least not yet.
@jasonbrink: That's funny because usually that would bother me too, but for some reason it doesn't when he does it! Could be that he's cute and has that british accent that I overlook it. Ha!
@tugttw: HD would be amazing for those produce, food shots! I stayed engrosed because he is so enthusiastic about local, fresh, home grown (if you can) produce and ingredients. Explaining that the flavors that come from these ingredients will blow people away because all of the preservatives that are used for typical supermarket foods have so little flavor left just to keep that tomato red, etc.
I love that he is really trying to change schools and their lunch programs and how he is dedicated to teaching kids to cook and what good food and
good nutrition can do both mentally and physically.

Well, I just watched it on my Tivo, and I thought it was pretty good. I might even try his stove-top smoker idea. And I'm sure I'll be watching future episodes ... but I have to admit, there was one thing in the closing credits that confirmed my suspicions of Jamie Oliver's phoniness. That was, right under his name as writer and presenter, "Gardener : Brian Skilton." All illusions of the basic premise of the show were shattered when I read that.

I quite like Jamie at Home. I too am in Canada, where it has been airing for a while. It's fun to see Jamie picking food and making it right away. It makes me covet his garden.
BTW-I'm not disappointed by the fact he has a gardener-they guy is superbusy running charity restaurants around the world, petitioning government to attend to food policies, making tv shows and writing cook books. I figured that he couldn't maintain his huge garden on his own with all that on his plate! The fact that he values food enough to have a garden and pay someone to grown it is good enough for me. That said, I'm a sucker for a cute boy with a British accent, what can ya do?

I loved it!!!!! I couldn't even bear to delete it from my Tivo.
I love Jamie Oliver and his passion for what he does. He just gets so excited about the ingredients, flavors and preparations that he is contagious. And those stuffed peppers are just scrumptious.
I have now Jamie @ Home in my Season Pass.

The gardener, Brian, appears on the show sometimes (as Maureen said, we've been watching it in Canada for awhile). He teaches Jamie things. I love when he appears, he does things like eat raw cloves of garlic, cheerily.

I have only seen the promos. Does he give gardening tips as well? I sure hope so.

I love Jamie Oliver and I'm so glad to see him back on FN! They need more 'real chefs' on there....
