A word for former vegetarians who eat free range meat?

Is there a word for people, say former vegetarians, who will eat meat as long as it is raised humanely, free range, organically? I suggest "Fregan" (free range vegan) or "Fromnivore" (free range omnivore). Is there already something out there? Any more ideas?

I've actually heard the term "fregan" used to describe people who only eat free food -- I know someone who does this, and he takes food that restaurants and stores throw away. He also forages. Isn't that interesting (read: crazy)???

My boyfriend and I ate this way for a while. We liked to call it "flexitarian." :)

i, too, find the fregans interesting. i know how frugal chefs and restaurant owners are, so it's unlikely safe, edible foods end up in the trash. sounds like a recipe for food poisoning to me.
how about "vegi-vore"?

"Free Range" for me = backyard. Gotta love it. I hate it when I have to buy meat from a grocery store, and if you want to be a real human being, you eat meat. The challenge is finding the good stuff. Try the local slaughterhouse or butcher, as opposed to the store and "FREE" yourself from the crap they put in meat these days. Any big city in this country is probably onle an hour or less from a farming community and the people who want quality should travel that far once a month and not worry about ground beef recalls. As far as the above question, Who obviously cares?

Freegan = dumpster diving. The United States throws out tons of perfectly good food everyday - grocers throw out heads of lettuce with a single blemish, bakeries throw out breads and rolls at the end of the day. I don't know if I could dumpster-dive for my food, but the people who do so seem well enough fed.

I like fromnivore. It sounds more like what it is.

Flexitarian covers most of this I think. It's how I refer to myself. I'm not and was never a complete vegetarian but I very infrequently eat meat and try to only eat humanely raised, free range meat products (and as locally as possible) as I can. Of course flexitarian as a way of eating is open to interpretations on motives, meaning you might eat that way for health as well as or instead of political/farm/animal rights concerns. So maybe something like "ethics motivated flexitarian?" That's a bit wordy though isn't it?

Flethicsitarian?

How about "ethictarian?" Or "ethicurean?" Like the blog.

Mmm I like that play on "ethics." Maybe ethotarian? Or even envirotarian?

The best name for them would be: "People-that-eat-meat"

I don't think "fregan" works as not all vegetarians are vegans. I think I have to agree with jasonbrink.

I mean, do we really need another term for the PC Crowd to throw around?

Lapsed vegetarian/vegan

Other terms don't presume previous abstinence from various animal products...

Depending on their original reasons for adopting vegetarianism, they might just be called rationalizers.

I'd just call them "friend," and welcome them back into the fold!

Free food??!!!! WHERE!!!!!?????

This post is profoundly important. If the name is cool enough, I think I can convert some of my vegi friends back to loving food. I guess some people need to be labelled to enjoy eating.

I vote for moralvore (from Latin moralis custom and vorare to devour), although this might more correctly refer to anybody who has a food code.

I'd call them "wealthy".

carnivore in denial

Oh, Lauren... that's excellent! I vote for your suggestion.
