What are some good hot wintertime alcoholic drinks?

I've been trying to find some good creative hot drinks to serve on days like today when it's so cold out? I've made the mulled wine and hot toddies, but I'm looking for something a little more outside-the box. Anyoen have any good ideas?

we like hot chocolate with a shot of creme de menthe after skating on the local pond.

The Food Whore recently offered up this delectable recipe for Hot Buttered Rum:

Batter:
1/2 c. butter, softened
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. sugar
1t. nutmeg
1t. cinnamon

Cream together well and mix into 1 pint of vanilla ice cream. Store in freezer.

To serve: Mix 3T of batter in a mug w/ 1 shot/jigger of rum. Top off with boiling water.

Rum and ice cream...are you KIDDING me?!

Hot chocolate with a liquor.Chamboard, amaretto, grand marnier, godiva, nocello all good choices. I also like hot cranberry juice with some red wine and grand marnier. MMMMM

I did a google search for hot apple pie shots- Brownie Points blog had a tasty one. Here's the recipe:
Hot Apple Pie Shots

In a pyrex measuring cup pour 3/4 cup of apple cider. Heat in the microwave till nice and steamy hot. Stir in 1/4 tsp of vanilla extract, one pinch of cinnamon, and 1/4 cup of rum.

Pour into a shot class 3/4 of the way full. Top with sweetened whipped cream and dust with cinnamon.

Serve immediately.

Makes 5-6 shots.

In your town, find a bakery that makes or a liquor store that sells Tom & Jerry batter.

At Doolittle's Woodfire Grill in Fargo, ND, I had a great hot chocolate with butterscotch Schnapp's in it. Yum!

I love an Irish Whiskey or hot chocolate with Baileys

Tipsy tea: Earl Grey with a shot of limoncello. (Also good over ice during the summer.)

Mulled hot apple cider with rum or hot coca with either Ammeretto or Frangelico

Tom and Jerrys

The batter isn't really that hard to make.

Loads of formulas on google.

It's a very Midwest thing, I prefer Brandy, but Rum is also great, and lots of nutmeg on top.

Mulled cider with bourbon

Stiv61:

I suggested a local bakery for Tom & Jerry batter because that's where I discovered them. I worked for an amazing baker in high school (he was very old and from scratch and cool) and he would make it during the holidays. I could eat it from the container with a spoon it was so so good...but better with liquor. Not that I drank. In high school. No sir, that would be wrong.

Warm eggnog with bourbon, a hot toddy, or mulled wine. I saw Michael Chiarello do a really interesting take on mulled wine this weekend - chocolate mulled wine! It was basically a heated and reduced bottle of zinfandel with some chopped chocolate melted in, then combined with warmed milked. He topped it with foamed milk and chocolate shavings. I'll definitely be trying that soon!

Spiced and spiked apple cider: apple cider, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and, of course, good dark rum :)

Thanks for all your suggestions folks! Now I know how I'll be getting through the winter...

Hot cider with spiced rum, caramel syrup, and a cinnamon stick.

Coffee with Bailey's, Frangelico, and Kahlua. A splash of Grand Marnier if you please.

Glögg can't be beat. I have a recipe for one I've perfected (I think) over years at Mel's Diner.

beer.. as usual.. specifically:

winter spiced beers like this one.
barleywine ales like this one.
imperial stouts like this one.

for something a little different, try a Japanese plum liquor called Choya... it can be served both hot or cold, and the alcohol-soaked ume or plums are deliciously potent ;)

i have no idea how difficult this is to procure but last week, I had a Japanese restaurant's house-infused ginger shochu. it's usually served over ice but the waiter recommended it served in a little hot water. it was lovely!
