Signature NYE Drink?

Looking for ideas for a signature New Year's Eve alcoholic drink to have for the evening at a party I'm hosting. Nothing too complex; just a simple, tasty, seasonal drink. Thanks in advance!

I would go with sazeracs or bourbon swizzles, want kind of liquor do you want to use?

I'm up for using any sort of liquor, though my personal favorite is vodka.

okay you can do vodka tonics with thyme and blood orange bitters, use a good but not great vodka (svedka or ketel would probably work best) regular tonic water (if you can afford the hand-crafted brands like "Q" or "Stirrings" by all means go that way.) Basically what you do is fill a glass with ice and add a couple of dashes of blood orange bitters to the glass, then add your vodka depending on taste. Fill with tonic and squeeze a lime on top then the kicker (and this really makes the drink) add a few sprigs of fresh thyme, it looks like missiletoe, tastes great and is different (you can also do this with cranberry juice instead of tonic)

Oprah made a pomegranite martini on her show that looked really good. The recipe is on her website.

I agree with Mitch- pomegranate drinks are nice this time of year. Colorful, festive and tart. I recently had a pomegranate bellini that was delightful. Just a splash of juice at the bottom of the glass and fill the rest with champagne or prosecco. Easy-peasy.

Mix up some vodka, cranberry (-raspberry) juice, and ginger ale, then throw in some lime slices for garnish. The punch ends up tart and not too sweet.

Pomegranate juice is delicious, but cranberry is more budget-friendly. :)

Champagne & Chambord® raspberry liqueur
Add a healthy splash of Chambord raspberry liqueur, pour the champagne into a champagne flute. and serve.

Well, the first thing that comes to mind is Long Island Ice Tea. There's no ice tea in it and it's quite potent but quite tasty. Off the top of my head you use vodka, tequila, rum, gin, triple sec and one or two other ingredients. I'm sure you can find the recipe on-line.

Kir Royale. Even people who don't love champagne usually enjoy them, especially since the amount of creme de cassis can be varied according to each person's desire for sweetness. They're beautiful, elegant and simple. And you can economize by using an adequately drinkable champagne (or California or Spanish sparkler) since you wouldn't want to waste the good stuff on a mixed cocktail. Note, I said adequate, not crap. I.e., Andre is NOT an option! ;-)

Save the good stuff for the midnight toast.

micottingham, I love your suggestion! I love raspberry flavoring in alcoholic beverages, especially with champagne!

Going along with the champagne, you can make mimosas (orange juice +champagne) or a nice Cosmopolitan is sure to please.

Chew on That

I was just reading about Black Velvet – 6 oz stout + 6 oz champagne. I'm not a beer drinker, but I don't like sweet cocktails either. I'm thinking of giving this a try.

Two notes:
Pour the champagne over a spoon to keep the layers separate.

For some reason this is also called the Velvet Hammer, so beware of velvet hangovers.
