KitchenAid Success!

So, I spent the weekend breaking in my new KitchenAid mixer, and was thoroughly happy with the results, so I wanted to thank you guys for all of your input and suggestions! I ended up making three loaves of bread (two from the attached booklet and one from another recipe), cookies, bars and my own bundt cake recipe (based on the Nut Goodie candy bar, you are familiar with that). It was a dream come true.

So, now the question is, what was the first thing that you ever made with yours, and did it turn out? Is there anything that you attempted that just failed miserably?

I think it was the English Muffin Bread from their recipe booklet?

I've modified the recipe somewhat over the (15+) years, but still make this bread at least once a month.

I got the 5qt DeLonghi mixer and broke it in day before yesterday. I made whole wheat bread which turned out so, so excellent.

I'm a little embarrassed to admit that I was a bit intimidated, because (1) it's been many, many years since I made yeast bread, and (2) I have NEVER used a stand mixer, ever, in my whole life!

But WOW. I'm hooked! (pun intended) -- as I'd hoped, I'm now motivated to resume making bread on a regular basis. Traveller, we'll have to check back now and then to compare notes. I'm thinking of a carrot cake next...

I had to ask KitchenAid for a replacement spaghetti roller -- and when it arrived, I made the best pasta I've ever had outside a restaurant. And I'm no pro at making pasta. Indeed, I am a total newbie.

Never again with the dried, box stuff or, for that matter, the chilled "fresh" pasta in grocery stores.

I love carrot cake, although I never really add the nuts to it, and since I am lactose-intolerant, I have used a ginger glaze instead of the traditional icing on it. That might be my next project!

We must be mixer soulmates... I adore nuts, but I never add them to carrot cake (or any baked goods) because they get rubbery and it just turns my stomach. But, I do put them on the top!

Ginger glaze sound tasty... I also love my carrot cake naked... mmmmmm

Good luck!

This is a potentially nice recipe for ginger icing. It's pretty close to the one that I have been using

Give it a try!

Music to my ears, ah children welcome to stand mixerland. Enjoy!!! (Cheering from the sidelines!!!)

I broke mine in over the weekend/Monday also. I made a big pan of butterfan dinner rolls, four loaves of a basic low yeast bread and a strawberry mousse cake.

In my secret heart of hearts, I am a baker and pastry chef. I have never, ever minded kneading bread, but I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE having a dough hook to do this for me. This is the new love of my life *sigh*.

I felt that the mousse cake I made wasn't necessarily improved by the use of the mixer, but maybe that's just my perception. I took this cake to a potluck dinner party on New Year's Eve and it literally became the subject of a disagreement over who was gonna get to polish off the rest of it.

None of us was *tanked*, so I was a little perplexed but also quite pleased :-)

OMG, I can't even remember my first recipe in the KA but it probably involved whipping cream or egg whites. Until then I had a Cuisinart so whipping was one thing that could not be done with the Cuis. I'm sure my second recipe was bread! All that muscle for mixing heavy dough - it's great.

I do love to knead by hand, it's very therapeutic. I told my BF, "You knead from the knees up!" He was a rather wimpy kneader till then :D.

Glad you had such a great experience!

Well i have to say that my lovely husband bought me a pink artisan for christmas. My first recipe of a sponge cake was a disaster, i used the flat paddle, and the cake was so heavy! Should I have used the wire beater. I am a really keen cook, and have looked forward to having this machine for soo long, and felt just a tad disappointed with my first attempt. I did not get any recipe book or anything with the machine - I dont know if this is because I am in the UK, I have sent off for a free book that was offered with the machine. Are there any good books anyone can recommend?
Help I want to use my pink lady!
