KitchenAid Artisan Stand Mixer Ideas

okay, so I have been dreaming of getting one for about a decade (no joke) and due to a very generous gift from my brother for Christmas this year, I bought one last night in the Blue Willow (beautiful!) color. I am so excited, but now I would like to have an idea for what recipe to use to inagurate it. Do you have any ideas? I almost want to try a bread, since this is the first time that I will have a dough hook and can properly mix yeast breads, but I am totally open for ideas.
Also, if you have craved something like this before and gotten one, how did you end up getting it? And do you remember what you first made with it?

I will say this to you because I have been there do some bread. Use the dough hook. The book that came with it has pretested recipes for bread and now is the time. If you don't have time for bread go through that book for starters and make something from it. Chocolate mousse, whipped potatoes, bake something. (Cheering from the sidelines!!!!)
Enjoy it and use it in the best of health.

I made carrot cake in mine when I first got it. I got to use the attachments! :)

wow, what a bizarre post to read! i've wanted one for forever too and i just bought a kitchen-aid mixer last night at william-sonoma, only it was lemongrass (the bright lime color). i wasn't planning on it but it was $70 off, plus 10% because of a scratch, which i have yet to find. anyway, i plan on making peanut butter & chocolate brownies with it (a smitten kitchen recipe) because i promised them to a friend for a new year's party. yay for kitchen-aid mixers!

I totally craved mine, too! My girlfriend got it for me as a Christmas present and -- check this -- took it to an auto detailing place and got flames painted on it! Soooo coool.

My first recipe with it? Um, I guess I'm a freak, because I used the grinder attachment with it and made fresh sausage!

I also got a Blue Willow KA this year (5 quart Pro Plus) named "Willis!" Congrats! I first made Cooks Illustrated NY Style Cheesecake to break in the paddle attachment, then bread!

Now I also highly recommend the Blue Willow 12 cup Food Processor so you can whip up some lovely pie crusts and pizza dough! Not to mention all the chopping it does!

Have fun with your mixer first though! Looking forward to hearing what you made!

Wow, i am glad that I am not the only one! Okay, has anyone else actually taken a photo of it to show people (sad, I know)? :)

Where did you get that peanut butter-brownie recipe? I have a coleague that just got promoted and I offered to make her something, and she wanted something with chocolate and peanut butter, so that would be perfect!

And I was also going to ask about the detailing (since I know that Alton Brown did it to his). How much did it cost you?

And I am glad that someone named there mixer...now I won't feel badly if I do, too!

Okay, and to Jerzee Tomato, what breads do you recommend? i am a seasoned baker and bread maker, but have always had to use my hands or a wooden spoon, et cetera...This just seems so much easier!

Thanks and keep the comments coming! I am just glad that i am not along in this! :)

here's the link to the brownie recipe: http://smittenkitchen.com/2007/10/peanut-butter-brownies/

i also took a picture of my new mixer. i told my mom, "now i don't have to get married since i bought the mixer myself."

Angel food cake from The Cake Bible, the cocoa-ingredient recipe. And while some may call it heresy, I have used it (with the wire beater) to gently fold in the dry ingredients without noticeable consequences.

This is too funny! Five years ago my mother told me that because I wanted it so badly, but it was so expensive, that she would buy it for me as a wedding gift...but I told her that I didn't want to potentially wait that long, so i finally bought it for myself, too! :)

Thanks for the recipe, too. i think that i will try that one. It looks gorgeous!

Here's the link to buy decals for your mixer if you want to check it out: http://flameka.com/default.aspx I think they look good, I just can't bear to change Willis!

I would also suggest going to KitchenAid's website and discussion forum to learn about the "dime test" to make sure your beater to bowl clearance is set properly so the whisk/paddle hit all the spots they're supposed to. Mine needed to be adjusted before I used it, so I was glad I did the test. Here's those links too for the tilt head: http://forum.kitchenaid.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=17089 and for those interested the bowl lift: http://forum.kitchenaid.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=17088

And oh yes, I have pictures of Willis, and pics of Willis beside his new lil bro Choppa (the food processor!) I love them A LOT!

I bought myself a mixer, due mostly to an amazing deal on Amazon.com. Not being much of a baker, I haven't had the lust for this appliance as so many seem to have. Alas, this deal was only for the meringue color, so at least I didn't have to agonize over the color. Got it a few days before Christmas, and am breaking it in - english muffin bread, oatmeal bread, cream puffs, focaccia bread crust for an appetizer, cinnamon rolls, whipped cream (of course!) and am now letting my first plain old white bread loaf rest.

I am in serious trouble

I also got one for christmas this year. We'll I got the 4.5 qt classic, and ended up returning it to the store and upgradng to the 5qt Artesian for only 50 bucks.

The first thing I made were chocolate chip cookies (the back of the bag ones) but I was in 7th heaven.

Thanks for the link to the forums and go the decals... My baby is in classic black and I soooo want to flame it up.

I started lusting after a KA probably 10+ years ago. I was unhappily married at the time and had started decorating birthday cakes as a hobby. Then-husband said he would buy me one but I declared they were too expensive and settled for a Sunbeam stand mixer. It was ok, but just didn't have the power of a KA. Fast forward a few years- we got a divorce, I started dating someone with more expendable income and the first Christmas we were together he bought me a white 4qt KA. I didn't ask him to, he just knew that I really wanted one so he went for it.

I ended up marrying him last March. Can you blame me? :)

Now I'm lusting after a bigger, better organized/laid-out kitchen...
