Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer - Ideas for first dish to make

I just found out that I'm getting a Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer for christmas. How super geeked am I? But now I am looking for ideas of the first thing to make with the mixer of my dreams.

Every kitchenaid mixer comes with a little hi new user recipe book. Open it and get familiar. Then make some bread. WOO HOOO fresh bread. Dough hook, say it with me.

Make something you couldn't do without it: brioche

Same dough can be used to make sticky buns. Recipes are online all over, but you can also ask someone else--or yourself--to get you Julia Child's Baking with Julia.

The brioche there comes from Nancy Silverton, if I remember correctly, and there are several applications for it.

The first recipe I made with mine was peanut butter cookies for my husband. Then, I made brownies. Bread-kneading is a breeze now. Enjoy your new toy! Also, after you've gotten used to it, definitely get the ice cream maker attachment and David Lebovitz's A Perfect Scoop. There's nothing like homemade ice cream.

I think the first recipe I made with it was Foccaccia bread. My mother-in-law bought me the Mixer Bible. It is great and has a couple of really nice foccaccia recipes in it. And yeah ... gotta love the kneading hook.

If you like pasta at all, a great christmas present is the pasta roller attachment. There is nothing like fresh pasta!

Bread. Any kind.

I've always liked the English Muffin Bread recipe that came with my KA recipe book. I make it every few weeks.

I went with Cheesecake (America's Test Kitchen NY Style) to give the paddle attachment a go before using my favorite spiral dough hook to make cinnamon bread.

Congrats and Enjoy!

I simply love it's ability to make fresh whip cream on auto-pilot. Have fun!

Meringue buttercream frosting to go on cupcakes!

Oh boy, barbigirl! I feel your geeky joy!!! There'll be a new stand mixer under my tree, too! I'm not sure in what order, but it will definitely be these three for me:

Whole Wheat Bread
Freshly Ground Beef for grilled burgers (guess I'll make the buns, too!)
Carrot Cake (with freshly shredded carrots, of course) with Cream Cheese Frosting

Enjoy your new toy!

Meringues, or swiss meringue buttercream ! There's nothing for beating egg whites like a stand mixer -

I would male cookies with add ins like rasins and nuts and pumpkin bread. The house will smell amazing!

and on a slight tangent (i'm famous for it, really), thank you for using the word geek in its proper and positive connotation...

Nthing bread. You'll want to kiss your machine. I like the Dinner Roll recipe from my red-and-white-checked Better Homes cookbook. I microwave the milk and butter instead of warming it on the stovetop, which makes it a tad easier. Then the rest of the recipe is just a cinch in that Kitchenaid. Congratulations on your gift! You will love it!

All of these ideas sound amazing... I think I might start with bread and then move on from there...

I had no idea you could get so many different attachments... *rubs hands greedily*

first thing you should do with your new KA? hmm let me borrow it? (wink)
