eating with a head cold
I can't taste a thing. Is this my big opportunity to try Durian? Or should I just stick with chicken soup?

When I can't taste anything I go for healthy food, load up on chicken soup (good for fighting viruses) and fruits and veggies. You can't taste it anyway, might as well be healthy. Hope you feel better soon.

Drink lots of hot tea with honey, gargle with sea salt or Kosher salt, take 1,000 mg of Vitamin C and soon your taste buds will be up and running.

You've got to have the healthy stuff, but Vitamin C is too late -- take normal amounts but don't overdo it in thinking you'll conquer a cold.
Now's the time for that roasted clove of garlic you hesitated to cook in the past. Smear it on good bread and enjoy.
And/or eat Korean. Or New Mexican. Both are a gauge to your sickness. If neither clears your head, you're really sick and should see a doc.

Fresh ginger added to your chicken soup is also very helpful...

I agree that spicy foods are excellent for a head cold.
In fact, wasabi is just fantastic for clearing your sinuses... so go eat sushi! And have a big bowl of miso soup with it -- very soothing. Ask them to add some extra kombu as kelp is very rich in antioxidants.
Important added bonus to sushi: Fish (especially salmon) is a great source of Vitamin D, and THAT is real the immunity building nutrient (much more effective than vitamin C).
Hope you feel better soon!

I like spicy soups when I have a cold. They serve two purposes - a) I can taste them and b) they make my nose run like the dickens.
Not sure what good it will do after you have a full blown cold but I've found Zycam to work really well at the onset. It's not a cure for the common cold but it sure is effective in the early stages.
(PS - Chicken Soup really does work...They don't call it Jewish Penicillin for nothing!)
Feel better! :D

as my friend chiff says get something that is spicy hot. The hot thins out congestion and your nose will run like a faucet. A hot curry or hot wings should fix you up pronto.

A tablespoon of prepared horseradish. I don't know about getting rid of your cold but I guarantee your sinuses will clear. If they don't burn out altogether! Forget the Durian. That stench will permeate any clogged-up nasal passage!

In addition to all the spicy recommended above, I'd remind you that fluids make all the difference in the world as to how long you'll be congested. Clear juices, teas, water, soups......as much and as constantly as you can.
I'm in the same boat, so I commiserate. Feel better soon!
sniff, achoo, cough, cough, cough, cough, arghhhhhhhh

Stick with the chicken soup and put lots of garlic in it; the stinking rose is nature's antibiotic!

Get some spicy chinese mustard or some wasabi - that should clear you up!

thanks so much, guys! The warmth of your wishes is making my nose run already.
Okay, that didn't come out great. But thanks, anyway.

PHO! it's a clear soup ( you can probably get pho ga (chicken) instead of pho tai (beef) if you want) and they always serve with sriracha and limes, which should be able to cut through to your taste buds. (almost all pho restaurants have pho in the business name, which should help towards finding it. and you can often get it to go if you are really to miserable to eat in public)
