World's greatest sandwich - for me, the BLT!

I love sandwiches, all kinds, any time of day. I think the world's most perfect sandwich is the BLT - crunchy, salty, sweet - sheer heaven between two slices of bread, especially made with my home-grown tomatoes!

I also like:
PB&J
Grilled ham and cheese on really good, hearty bread
Liverwurst with LOTS of ice berg lettuce (unfoturnately not as often as I would like)
Really good French Dip with au jus

Favorite restaurant sandwich is the Leonardo Di Veggie at Bruggers.

What is yours?

I have a few faves. My base requirement is that the sandwich is on some grainy, wheaty bread. I also like wraps with whole grains. Then, I love ham and cheese sandwiches, especially warmed so the cheese is all melty. I also like--it's really weird, but good--peanut butter and egg sandwiches. You make the egg kind of like an omelet, then put it between the bread with PB on it. So good. I had a very good Chicken Cheesesteak tonight, and I love a hard boiled egg cut up and eaten with a slice of provolone and some veggies.

I love a Reuben, myself. Yum!

In keeping with the season, my vote goes to a leftover turkey sandwich on defiantly plain, white bread (Okay so I buy one loaf per year in late November...). Slather on the artery clogging mayo, pile on the mixed dark and white meat (heavy on the dark), a little salt and a lot of fine grind pepper... If your in no hurry and feeling a bit "gourmet", put some lettuce on top. Not much finer for a halftime treat with bags of Cheetos and Fritos nearby.

Thick slices of day-old toasted peasant bread, spread with either aioli or sun dried tomato spread, sliced turkey breast, and brie. All the better if the entire sandwich can be toasted.

Can't pick just one. Meatloaf on chewy whole grain bread with watercress and ketchup (I seem to be obsessed with this). A Reuben. Bacon, egg and cheese with black pepper on a roll before the sun is up. BLT on rye toast. A juicy hamburger with blue cheese, bacon, lettuce and tomato.

Whole grain hero with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, bean sprouts, avocado and cheddar cheese, a good amount of mayo. Yum.

Also really crispy bacon and lettuce (no tomato) on toast w/lots of mayo.

Great. Now I'm hungry. It's only 1015 in the morning and I'm already waiting for lunch. Thanks Michigander!

How on earth can one choose among the wonderfulnesses of sandwiches? I keep obsessing over one I never tasted, only saw on menus in a phone book on Long Island: Egg and potato heroes. I keep thinking about that, especially if the potatoes were cooked with some onions.

Fried fish with tartar sauce on a hamburger bun; served with hush puppies. Preferably from this joint called the Hatterasman in Hatteras Village, NC.

I do love a good BLT or reuben, though. Or if my Uncle Marshall is in town, fried bologna on white bread.

Oh, how could I forget the meatloaf sandwich?! I've been known to make a meatloaf and put it straight in the fridge for cold meatloaf sandwiches. Best breakfast EVER.

I love a grilled cheese.
Also like BLT, turkey and swiss, reuben, ham and cheese.
Cold meatloaf on squishy white bead.

roast chicken {dark meat} with hellman's mayo on fresh challah.

Grilled roast beef, cheese and green chile on sourdough bread. Add tomato when in season. Best easy, go-to sandwich is the traditional grilled ham and cheese. When I think of NYC, I think of reuben or pastrami.

Lobster roll, on a toasted hot dog bun, with just enough mayo to hold it together...

Ham, Brie, and Granny Smith apples on good sourdough...

Po' boy with fried oysters and french fries (I know it sounds strange)...

Roast Beef, Ham, and Swiss with mayo, banana peppers, and the potato chips ON the sandwich...

The delicious leftover turkey sandwich (Mine are like yours, czken)...

Grilled cheese with red onions, sprouts, and roma tomatoes on multigrain...

Curried chicken salad with grapes...

Tuna salad with roasted red peppers and kalamata olives...

Adams peanut butter and good raspberry jam on toasted wheat bread...

Egg, ham, and cheese on an English muffin (homemade, not fast food)...

Plain ham on very buttery toast...

Um. ok, I think I'm done.

Has anyone else ever seen the show "Sanwiches That You Will Like" on PBS? Makes me want to travel the country and eat sandwiches.

I love tuna melts - that might be my favorite. But for more of a snack sandwich, you MUST try peanut butter with bananas and honey....delish!

Chew on That

Liverwurst on Berkhardt's rye, German mustard with thinly sliced red onion. Spicy hot Italian salami, capacola, mortadela and provalone on a good hoagie roll with shredded lettuce, tomatoes, chopped kalamata olives and liberally sprinkled with olive oil and red wine vinegar.

How could I forget grilled cheese -- sharp cheddar with several grinds of black pepper on whole grain bread; that's really good.

Imported tuna packed in olive oil, drained mixed with a goodly amount of Best Foods (Hellmanns) mayonnaise on Roses hearth bread, one slice spread with butter, the other with more mayo! We try not to do this more than twice a year.

i need to amend my answer -- the greatest sandwich is pastrami on rye with mustard and cole slaw and a half sour pickle. but i've convinced myself for the sake of my waistline that it's really roast chicken.

Ah man, I gotta agree with ceforrester on this one...the very thought of bahn mi makes me swoon...

Actually, now I think I will have to get one (or a whole bag's worth) tomorrow while I'm in the area of my favorite bahn mi shop...

oh my....oooh my....well..nothing beats a fried oyster, shrimp, crab or catfish poboy on toasted crusty bread with a touch of mayo, brown mustard, sprinkled with La. Hot Sauce with lettuce or coleslaw on top!!! Must have extra napkins. And of course I agree with the left over turkey sandwiches, but I have to add some cornbread dressing spread over once slice of bread..it has to be cornbread dressing...not that ooeygooey white bread stuff....Great pulled pork barbque sandwiches with mayo and bbq sauce...with or without coleslaw. Of coarse theres always the old comfort food fried egg sandwich with mayo, salt and fresh ground pepper with tomato slices..fresh from the garden of course...emm sometimes tomatoes are fresh..just a tomato and mayo sandwich is all I want....but..there is one that I shall never forget..EVER...When I lived in Anchorage Ak, I used to fly down to Kenai on business and there was an authentic New Jersey Sub shop on the main road, bless my poor deprived southern heart.....excuse me while I wipe the drool off my key board. (my boss and I discovered it and being orig from NJ she authenticated it!!) and we both ordered sandwiches...The guy made one half ready to go and "fishwrapped" the other half for later...every trip down there I could never pass that shop without stopping.....and I could never wait for my short plane ride back before digging in..usually right in the gate seating area.....It's been 3 years since my last visit to the New Jersey Sub Shop..(yes, thats the real name)...and I would gladyly fly up there just to induldge one more time for that beautiful roll........I have to numbly go and strart dinner now....sigh
