At home it has to be grilled cheese and tomato soup.
In a restaurant maybe clam chowder or a minestrone with a roast beef sandwhich!

we had campbells tomato and grilled sharp cheddar cheese last night!

Progresso hearty tomato soup along with a fried egg, a slice of sharp cheddar and a tomato slice on white toast schmeared with Hellman's for the all time favorite. The day after Thanksgiving, however, that bet is OFF...

If one considers chili a soup, I'd say peanut butter sandwich with chili. Otherwise, I'd go with a grilled cheese (I like Irish cheddar, brush mayo on the outside instead of butter) with tomato soup (and it better NOT be Campbell's!).

I'm in the chili (vegetarian) & peanut butter sandwich group, too!

there used to be a really great coffeeshop on the corner of 5th and 17th or 16th street. i forget the name.
my regular order was always spilt pea soup with a swiss tuna melt.
astarteny at 11:05AM on 11/05/07
Another grilled cheese and tomato here. Especially when made with good cheese and my homemade tomato soup. MMMmmm...
Also, tomato soup with open face tuna melt (toast bread, cover with tuna and a slice of good cheddar or swiss, stick under the broiler until the cheese is bubbly and a little browned).
Of course, I'm a bit obsessed with soup, so I'll take just about any kind with a good sandwich!

Love the ubiquitous grilled cheese and tomato soup. The grilled cheese can consist of the plainest of whole wheat bread and cheddar or a beautiful, open faced peasant slice with melted gruyere and sliced tomatoes.
Tomato soup also pairs well with mac & cheese.

guess i'm still 10 yrs old at heart but campbells tomato soup and a grilled cheese is the ultimate cold weather comfort lunch!

Soup and Sandwich is perhaps the perfect meal, my favorite combos are:
Pumpkin bisque and PB and honey
Cream of mushroom or Tomato and grilled muenster on whole wheat.
Chicken mushroom barley and turkey w/ cranberry on multigrain.
