Post Thanksgiving Brunch Quandry...
Okay -- forget Thanksgiving - I am well on my way for that -- just a small group for that. But for some reason in a moment of insanity I invited people for brunch on Sunday. Okay so I want it simple, but would like a nice cocktail and some good savory, but fairly simple recipes...any ideas are greatly appreciated.

creme brulee french toast. you can prep it all the night before and then put it in the oven morning of. warning, though: it's super-rich.
basically, you take challah or brioche slices and stack them in a baking dish, pour custard over it and weigh it down with a plate (i put a can of veggies on top of the plate). next morning, pop in a 350 or 375 oven until golden and bubbly. this isnt exactly savory, like you asked for, but it's good.
or you could do a make your own bagel bar. get some bagels, different stuff to put on top including lox, have people make their own.
or a big huge fritatta. i make mine with whatever is left in the fridge; cut up cooked potatoes, cheese, leftover ham, whatever. serve that with toast and an array of jams.
just a few ideas.

i forgot to mention, put together a make-your-own bloody mary (or screwdriver) bar. different mixes and condiments to put in, a bucket of ice, some glasses, some chilled vodka. i always love those.

or mimosas.
sorry for the multiple responses; everyone at work has headed home early, and i'm all alone with no work, nothing to do but daydream about food.

egg strata/egg casserole...whip up some eggs with milk, pour over cubed bread- (or even stuffing-tried it once- loved it), you can add frozen veggies, spices, your choice of grated cheese.meat (leftover turkey perhaps?) lots of possibilities! You can even make it the night before- just pop in oven about an hour before they show up.

I have done those egg casseroles with ham, but I should think left over turkey would be awesome too. Another option is German pancakes - they are baked in the oven. With a fruit salad, a meat option - if your guests eat meat - you could do traditional breakfast meats (bacon, sausage - cook both ahead (not quite done) if you need to and reheat in micro or oven), or a European mix of salami, procuitto (I have suddenly lost the ability to spell), keilbassa, and a few slices of decent cheese.
I'd show up. Really. Send me your coordinates! (grin)

For a yummy brunch cocktail try passion fruit mimosas (champagne or cava which is less pricey with passion fruit juice). It's a refreshing brunch coktail.

We do leftover rolls with honemade jam and left over cakes cookies and pie with good coffee. At that point no one wants to cook anything till Sunday. Mimosas, bloody marys, madras darling please.
