New York-Celebration but not too fussy
Hey New York,
I am going going to spend my 50th birthday in New York and I want to know if you have some suggestions. I have been to New York well over 20 times and some of my personal favorites are Amma, Becco, and Suenos. But for my birthday dinner I want to kick it up a notch-but not a big notch. We run around all day when we are in New York and I don't want to have to dress up the nines and go to Daniel or Jean Georges (nothing against these places, but I have found them a bit too much for a weary gal.) I was thinking seriously about Babbo as I have fond memories there. But I am open to ideas of other places. We are staying in Midtown but will happily cab the village. No steak places please. Thanks for your help!

I always recommend Annisa (on Barrow St.) as the most under appreciated restaurant in NYC. I live here and can eat anywhere, and I have, but I love this restaurant. It is small, and not hip, but great, nonetheless. You could also try Mario's new place, Del Posto, or Eleven Madison Park, where the new chef is getting raves. I actually celebrated my fiftieth at il Buco on Bond St. It is really informal, fun and bustling, like an Italian taverna or bar. The food is really good(chefs are known to go there after hours) They have a lower level wine cellar room that is a really cool place. Happy birthday, and have fun!!!
