Labor inducing foods

Hi all!
I'm currently in the 'past due' days of pregnancy...does anyone have any good 'labor inducing' food ideas or stories?
Thanks!

My s-i-l can't eat lamb chops without reminding us that they were her last meal before she went in to labor...but I don't think they actually did anything! It's more likely the acupuncture did it. Yes, REALLY!

If you had any problems with nausea during your pregnancy, I would suggest you eat very lightly.

Good luck and have an easy delivery and healthy baby!!!!

I heard this place does wonders.

I once heard that spicy salsa has a reputation for being labor inducing.

Oh yeah, and congratulations!

Please consult your doctor before taking the advice of the people on this board. We know kitchen labor, not child labor.

Sex.
I guess that's not really a food, but it works.
I've heard of eating pineapple before, but I can only vouch for the former.
Oh, and don't listen to anyone that tells you jumping on a trampoline induces labor.
It doesn't.

ajeys, I don't think I really want to know HOW you know about the trampoline myth! What an image... ;-) But I do agree about sex!

Also, with both of mine, it *seemed* to be triggered by a ridiculously large, heavy meal. In fact, with #1, after devouring about twice what I normally eat, I brought home a huge piece of death-by-chocolate cake to eat "later" but went into labor at 3 am and never did get the first bite of that cake!

Good luck and let us know the outcome! (pun intended)

Beets - according to an episode of ER. I have heard sex is the best remedy, haha! Congratulations!

My former MIL claims she induced labour for her second child by drinking a healthy sized glass of wine (she had not touched a drop during the pregnancy) and then going for a ride on a bumpy road. Now, granted, this was almost 40 years ago when perhaps we didn't realize that this might not be a good idea.

My mother induced both her labours (with drs approval!) using castor oil. She DOES NOT RECOMMEND THIS! (grin)..... I am 41 and my sister is 38, so again, dated information.

Although I know of a few people who have had success with a healthy dose of castor oil (yuck!)......sex really is the best way, but there is a bit of irony to this method....you have to have an orgasm. Orgasms cause the uterus to contract and that's exactly what the baby needs to get going. Enjoy it...it's the last one your gonna get for a few weeks!!! Sex is also good for cramps, but the same bit of irony applies here as well...gotta have the orgasm!!! God is just too funny sometimes!!!

My sister (23) ate a bag of Granny smiths, walked backwards on a curb, put cabbage in her bra, drank some castor oil, pigged out on Mexican (spicy) and waited. And waited. Walked a couple of miles. Did a yoga DVD. Waited. And waited. A bag of pitocin did her in for all 9lbs 13oz of Rylee Abrianna to get here....4 days and alot of trips to the bathroom later.

Apparently, my mom went to Long John Silver's before she starting having contractions from me and was taken to the hospital. Definitely not the most glamorous, and I wouldn't recommend it as the place to go, but I still think it's kind of amusing!

I walked 22 blocks, round trip, to open an account at a bank the day after I was due (and had not delivered).

A friend ran up and down steps.

Another one ate Rocky Mountain Oysters (it didn't work).

Another ate bull heart (that didn't work either).

Finally, a week overdue, I had a particularly rough exam and the doctor promised he'd see me again within 24 hours. He was exactly right.

Thanks for sharing all the great stories and advice!
So far I have tried the spicy food (lots of hot sauce on everything) and tons of pineapple.
The thought of Castor oil terrifies me, and SEX...HA..I can't even 'go there' at this point!
But, the baby has yet to make an arrival! If it doesn't come soon, I will also be hooked up to a bag pf pitocin. :)
