I spend a lot of time in Middle Tennessee, but surprisingly, I've never sought out Japanese food, even though it's one of my faves! I guess we're always eating at home with family while we're there, or going out for fattening Southern cooking.
Anyway. Here are some recommendations that seemed okay, but I have no idea whether they're worthwhile. Let me know if you try them out!
In Nashville: Ru San on 12th seems surprisingly well-rated. I guess it's a spin-off from the original in Atlanta (?). If you're accustomed to sushi joints in major cities, this is probably the best choice. Also mentioned, were Ichiban on 2nd Ave. and Ken's Japanese on Division St.
Also, in Brentwood (I know, still Nashville), might try Hanabi.
