Green Bean Casserole...
In case anyone's interested... Cooks Illustrated did a "from scratch" version of Green Bean Casserole that looks outstanding. The recipe is on their site and it's free.

Saveur also did an adaptation of the classic Campbell's Soup recipe, which I'm planning on trying this year.

Ooh, Thomas Keller has his version, as well, on New York mag's site:

I tried it 2 years ago and thought it was great. but I used creminis, not cepes (budget).
The hardest part is making the shallot rings for the top, but they are so delicious, and not all that hard, really.

Ed and Chris Kimball have made me take string beans off the menu this year. When I do string beans I do them with garlic, sea salt, some chopped shallot and few twists of pepper. No casserole here.

Anything's got to be better than that nasty concoction Campbell's soup has been foisting on us for years...
