Crunchy foods...what are your favorites?

Love the mouth-feel of crunchy foods---seem be extra satisfying & keeps the mouth happy :)

I crunch & munch on these:

Kashi granola bars
Grape-Nuts cereal
crisp apples
peanut brittle
baby carrots
biscotti

What's your best loved crunch?

24 Comments:

apples, baby carrtos and celery

Fried clams, not that I have a chance in H of getting them around here.

Kashi Granola bars and cereal; Apples; Carrots and other fresh veggies; Graham Crackers, rice cakes...yum yum!!

baby carrots, apples, pretzels, hazelnut biscotti, and when I'm feeling really really bad, I'll have some andy capp cheddar fries (strongly flavored, very crunchy, very fatty and no redeeming nutritional value....I indulge once every few months).

Wasabi peas, roasted almonds, and Cheetos...and anything from the Frito-Lay canon of snack foods.

apples, Theo cocoa nib brittle, Bearitos tortilla chips!

Munchos potato chips, celery, apples, baby carrots, popcorn, Frosted Flakes...

Cocoa nib brittle? That sounds REALLY good, littlebluesiren.

Apples, crackers, nuts, carrots.

herr's catsup flavored potato chips. not that i've allowed myself to eat any in the past couple of years.

Toasted, unsalted nuts of any kind, but especially hazelnuts, almonds, and walnuts). Anything that involves said toasted nuts (brittle, toffee, granola, etc.)

Also carrots, radishes, fried green plantains, crispy oatmeal cookies, popcorn (preferably homemade with salt, sans butter)...

Kashi Go Lean Crunch. It's so hard, I can barely hear anyone talking to me while I eat it. (With milk or out of hand.) The decibel level reminds me of the Cap'n Crunch of my youth.

At Christmas time, one of the cookies served is Quaresimale ("half bad"). Those puppies will break your teeth.

I have to include pretzels in this category because even though they're a salty snack, the Snyders of Hanover pretzels I eat have some serious crunch.

I'm with ya on the Kashi Crunch & roasted almonds...gingersnaps are a crunch favorite, too.

Gardetto's!

Corn nuts. On the few occasions I've chewed on them at the office, my co-workers accused me of breaking up gravel in my mouth. Also love salt-and-vinegar potato chips, freshly fried tortilla chips with salt, and cole slaw. Crunch heaven!

If it's crunchy, I probably eat it, especially if it's also salty! Chips, pretzels, corn nuts, whatever. A couple of weird ones... I just love the little overdone fries in the bottom of the batch (whole family knows to pass theirs to me... or ELSE!), and the semi-popped kernels at the bottom of the popcorn (are they widows or orphans? can never remember). I see a trend. Am I a bottom feeder?

Nuts, carrot sticks, water chestnuts, dill pickles. MMMmmmmm...

I also love ginger snaps and good biscotti -- not only crunchy, but no overly sweet.

Red Hot Blues. Addicting.

I LOVE Kashi granola bars! Only the crunchy ones! I particularly like Honey Toasted 7-Grain. I also love biscotti, and crunchy potato chips...oh you and your topics always leave me hungry JEP.

Chew on That

Zapp's Cajun Crawtators....Thick cut chips cooked in peanut oil and covered with crawfish boil seasonings....reminds me of home.

Crunchy rice at the bottom of the pot!

Did that yesterday. Lined a casserole pot with lightly-buttered rice on the base and sides, filled it with layers of raw marinated chicken and vegetables, sealed with another layer of rice, then put the lid on and baked on 420 degrees for 15 min, then 350 degrees for 30 to 45 min.

And read some Harold McGee while waiting.

Doctor Kracker crax---anyone else love these?

I just came across a recipe on Foodaphilia. Coconut Almond Toffee Crunch cookies that are said to satisfy chewy, crunchy, sweet, salty & buttery. Now that's a winner!

I like celery and carrot chips -- especially with blue cheese dip/dressing. Chips -- I used to put Nacho Cheese Doritos on my turkey sandwiches because I liked the taste and the crunch. With certain cereals, I like to grab a handful to snack on. And I just got some sour cream & onion rice crips from TJ's -- yum! I like my stir fry veggies to be crunchy as well; they're good with water chestnuts.

Toast, love toast, with jam, butter, pate, cheese whatever. Apples, I just picked up these tiny apples at the market, so cute like little toys you can eat, also slightly obsessed with La Panzanella Rosemary Croccantini at present.

Chinese-Muslim style stir fry thin strips of potatoes! Try to recreate it here at my house. I know they soak them in salt water, but do they blanch them??
