Wine of the month club: how to choose?

Hi, I'm looking to join a wine of the month club sort of thing, but when I did a search I found quite a large number of clubs. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with clubs or had recommendations on how to choose one? I live in Virginia, and saw that one club already couldn't mail to me! Any help would be appreciated!

In Virginia you are lucky (like me) and have Total Wine

This is my go to wine authority in many states.
In PA we are not permitted to get wine shipments. So usually I go and get it in Delaware. Total Wine will bring in anything you want.
VA state law

You can get up to 2 cases per month.

Certain states do not allow wine to be shipped to individuals. It's just the law.

But frankly, why join a club with picks from someone who doesn't know what you like? I'd go visit a wine store and chat with a salesperson about what you like, what you need, and what you want to spend. Wine geeks (or cork dorks, as they occasionally style themselves) are thrilled to help people, to try to bring them into the family, so to speak. And they're not like car salesmen, on comission, so they won't try to sell you "up". If you're out in the boonies, where I lived for many years, I'd find a good place in the nearest city, and even with a monthly or even bi-monthly visit, it's a good relation to cultivate. YMMV, but I've never met a wine salesperson who wasn't just as happy to help an interested rookie as a Bordeaux snob.

lemons I agree that is why I suggest that binlu go visit Total Wine. They have very educated and helpful people in the wine department.
You can tell them what your likes and dislikes are and they keep coming up with stellar suggestions. In almost a decade of going there I have never not liked their top picks of the month or their suggestions and we are very very finiky.

I would surpass wine clubs completely unless you like a particular varietal or winery. Go to wine bars are specialty stores.
