Who has a Shopsin's story?

Just saw the doc "I Like Killing Flies" and realized Shopsin's was the same place Calvin Trillin wrote about last year (only because it was closing). But now Shopsin's has re-opened in the Essex Market.

So, who has a Shopsin's story? Can a novice go to the Market stall and eat abuse-free? Is Kenny the same now that his wife has passed on? Were any of you regulars at the original location?

I'm hungry for Shopsin lore!

If you haven't read Last Brunch At Shopsin's (posted on Serious Eats back in December), I recommend it!

Thanks, Alaina--I hadn't seen that! Now I want even more to know how the Essex Market version operates....even though I'm a little afraid to go down there...

I havent eaten at the Essex Market version or had any super-notable Kenny encounters...but I di want to reply brcause I saw the movie a few months ago and it was great. So if there are any serious eaters around who haven't seen it yet, get thee to Netflix!

I'm a little surprised at the afraid to go down there comment. Unless you're talking about Kenny himself. We went in with a long-time customer he's actually relatively fond of, so we didn't get a Full Kenny.

Well, yeah, lemons--that's the trick, isn't it? Going with a regular? Alas, my lifelong dream of hanging with Calvin Trillin doesn't seem to be coming to fruition, so I'm on my own. And yes, I was talking about Kenny.

If you want to take me down there, though, I'm ready!
