What's in your kitchen junk drawer?
Surely, y'all have one of these---right? A drawer that contains mostly non-food related I-feel-the-need-to keep-this-junk "important" stuff.
Open my junk drawer & you'll find:
needles & thread
flashlight & batteries
fingernail file
old keys (no idea what they open)
thumb tacks
glue sticks
old picture ID's from college (now age 58)
string
pad locks with missing keys
rubber bands
misc other valuables that are rarely used...
Open your kitchen junk drawer, what do you see?

I guess I've moved too often for a wondrous drawer like that....my kitchen junk drawer has "stuff" related to kitchen use in it. Right now there are some thermal cups that I use once every two years, a thermos that someone gave me, a new package of bamboo skewers (in standby mode) an old anodized (50's) mixing cup, the kind with a lid, put stuff in it and shake until you arm falls off.....and some candy thermometers and an oven thermometer, a plastic cutting board with a crack (won't I find a use for it some day?) and knives that have not passed muster and are waiting to go to St. Vinnies.
Yours sounds like a lot more fun. Most of the stuff that is in your junk drawer is in my office supply area.....which covers a bit more than one drawer.

Oh boy. Now you've opened a can of worms. I have multiple junk drawers.
In addition to most of the contents you mentioned, JEP, we have take-out menus, lip balm, packing tape (in a big dispenser), post-it notes, sharpie pens in multiple colors, labels, coupons, regular pens and twist-ties.

My kitchen junk drawer contains kitchen junk like cheese cloth, string, and bamboo skewers. My family room drawer is the place to go for batteries, a deck of cards, coasters, and maps. Oh, and then there is the office supply drawer, and the bathroom supply drawer. That contains bandaids, ointments, sunscreen, aloe gel, gauze ... Then there is the bedroom junk drawer containing buttons, travel supplies, jewelry. This little exercise has made me realize just how much junk we have. Sigh.

I'm actually quite surprised at how similar these are to mine. No one has mentioned replacement fuses yet though, lol.

Everyone's comments made me realize that I, too, have other junk drawers---bedroom (various useless crafts the grandkids have made, etc), bathroom (ACE bandages, anti-bacterial creams, etc). I'm one to keep things "just in case I need them", sadly the junk drawers just get heavier & harder to open :(

Our drawer is filled with old, pretty much useless corn-on-the-cob holders! They were cute and used often back in the day, but it's been years since we've pulled those things out and we have a ton!

Hodge-podge of screw drivers, needle nose pliers, and all the 'extra' screws, fasteners that come with door knobs, furniture, etc. Also has all my owner manuals for various appliances.

aming my many junk draws, the kitchen one contains a shameless number of takeaway menus, a cat collar and kitten harness, a protractor, old chinese takout chopsticks, old envelopes and a lot of pens that dont work.

I only have 2 drawers in my entire kitchen, so there is no junk drawer.

I have a drawer of random kitchen stuff, but I also have a junk drawer in the kitchen. That has our current and old passports, birth certificates, all sorts of stationary, plus two types of crazy glue. I've only been in the house for two years - who knows what will eventually end up in there...

What about birthday candles? Definitely got lots of those.
Eroca at 11:32AM on 10/09/07
Yup, plenty of used birthday candles. Along with tons and tons of rubber bands, twist ties, plastic bags with plastic knives and paper napkins (never know when you'll need a plastic knife!), cheap wooden chopstick, and skanky dish towels.

another peek into the junk drawer:
Lock de-icer
keys from a car I sold years ago
"five year" lapel pin for work
tags from clothes purchased, when?
a watch that no longer works
I need serious intervention on letting go of "important stuff"...
JEP at 5:55PM on 10/09/07
Jep: you never know when you may need old clothes tags ^^

No junk drawer in this kitchen. We have tons of cabinets, but only 4 shallow drawers. (Who's idea was that?!) They're taken up by the "everyday" flatware & cooking utensils. That said, 'tis not unusual to find a stray sewing needle (for puncturing pet vitamin capsules) or the rings I wore a week ago laying at the bottom of the salad fork tray.
KitchenHawk at 9:40PM on 10/09/07
Chopsticks, take-out menus, and appliance manuals.
