What do you love on 9th Avenue in NYC?
I need help. We're going to MSG Thursday night, want to eat cheap and well while en route, and don't have time to do the research. So Serious Eaters, I ask you: What restaurant/joint do you love on 9th Avenue?

I used to live near 9th but a bit further uptown. Our favorite neighborhood spot was Ariana Afghan at 9th and 52/53rd. Also stop in at Poseidon Bakery at 45th street for amazing strudel.

Go to Osteria Gelsi on 9th Ave. and 38th. Good food, nice people, fair prices and a 24 in the new Zagat. You won't be sorry!!

Bali Nusa Indah has Indonesian food, a relatively rare find in NYC.

Thank you all! This suggestions were exactly what I was looking for. I think we'll try Osteria Gelsi on another night. For tonight, it'll probably be Bali Nusa Indah before heading off to see Bruce.
Again, thanks!

This is probably too late at 4:15 p.m., but just in case...
Right at Penn, Mustang Harry's serves the purpose. Nick & Stef's is much better and equally convenient, BUT, it's not what I'd call cheap. Keen's and Uncle Jack's are better, but even less cheap.
Reliable, affordable:
Osteria Gelsi -- southern italian -- 9th nr 38th
brgr -- burgers -- 7th nr 27th
If you can go a bit out of your way, try Tia Pol for tapas (10th nr 23rd) or Grand Sichuan (9th nr 24th).
Also good, but probably too far is Suenos -- mexican -- W.17th btwn 8th/9th
