Thanksgiving will not be complete without----------pie

As my previous thread stated, I'm full into holiday planning. Yesterday , my son called and told me he wanted coconut custard pie for Thanksgiving. But for me, the dinner will not be complete without pecan pie. What pie completes your image of Thanksgiving?

My father loves mince pie. He is the one that loves it. Usually others will eat it since it is pie and it is there. I always get a mince pie for him because he loves it. I don't eat it but I understand.

It must be pumpkin pie. That's the best part of Thanksgiving dinner.

Definitely pumpkin pie, made from Libby's packed pumpkin and using the recipe on the back of the can. Oh, and homemade crust. With real whipped cream.

I make pumpkin pie year-round as it's one of the top faves in my house. In fact, it's so popular around here, that I recently began making just the filling as a crustless pie. Actually, it's a baked custard -- be sure to use a waterbath -- and I think it's even better than a pie. The texture comes out so luscious.

Anyway. Back on topic... needless to say, pumpkin pie is EXTREMELY important at Thanksgiving around here! But, I also like a good pecan pie at that time, and at Christmas, too. And my MIL makes an awesome sweet potato pie that will ALMOST stand in for pumpkin (but not quite).

My dad is a mince pie fan, too, Jerzee -- but he likes to have it at Christmastime.

Apple pie! No question. I have never liked pumpkin pie. There are individuals in my family who must have pecan pie at Thanksgiving, but my preference is always for apple.

There is the most divine recipe for a Mocha Pecan Pie in the Sunday's at Moosewood cookbook. Chocolate, bourban, pecans. You can't go wrong with that combo.

Of course, pumpkin is the obvious answer. With a terrific crust.

At my house, pecan, pumpkin and apple. With whipped cream and vanilla ice cream available. Without all three, it's not Thanksgiving dinner.

I'm surprised pumpkin wasn't the implied answer here. That's the only pie I need on Thanksgiving! And oddly enough I used to hate pumpkin pie.

PUMPKIN PIE!

As a kid, my mom made what seemed like an endless array of pies...pumpkin, squash, apple, pecan, mince and custard. My favorite was custard. My mom used to let us have pie for breakfast the day after Thanksgiving...a big deal to a kid...it was a yearly treat..pie for breakfast!

Since we have a small gathering these days, we cannot have so many pies...so we'll have to choose just one....sigh

Used to be pumpkin, but by popular demand I will likely have to make my original pie from last year Vanilla-Sweet Potato Pie with Brown Sugar-Pecan Crust. Although, this year's is a contender. I just posted the recipe, an apple tart with rosemary-infused red wine caramel, Gorgonzola, and a walnut crust. Damn fine as well.

key lime pie with raspberry coulis and whipped cream. it's not traditional, but it's definitely much easier to eat something tart after all that rich food!

i don't like pumpkin pie, but i always make a pumpkin cake, which everyone loves. normally we're too full to eat it on thanksgiving so we have it for lunch the next day.

When I think of Thanksgiving dessert, pumpkin, apple & pecan pies come to mind. Last year, my host served key lime pie & brownies---both delicious. However, on the holiday, I'm more of traditionalist, tho'

For years, it's been pumpkin tart (James Beard's pumpkin pie recipe that includes preserved ginger and brandy, although I substitute rum, baked in a sweet tart shall rather than pie crust) and apple pie.

of course, there's always pumpkin...but for me, it's not Thanksgiving without a lemony Chess Pie.

Pumpkin pie has always been a constant for my family. More recently, we've been serving sweet potato pie as well.

Pumpkin pie is so ubiquitous...and it wouldn't be T-Giving without it. Whatever else I make, there is always a pumpkin pie.

Anyone made Dorie Greenspan's Thanksgiving Twofer Pie? It's out of her newest book "Baking From My Home To Yours" or something to that effect. It's amazing. It sounds mundane, a combination of pumpkin and pecan pies - but blended together it has a mouthfeel like fudge. I highly recommend it...In addition to your favorite pumpkin pie!

It must be pumpkin pie. I would adore a slice of home made pumpkin pie, with just a little bit of real whipped cream on top. Mmmmmmm.

We're in a serious pie rut in my family. It's been the same pies for both Thanksgiving and Christmas for years now, made by one well-meaning but unadventurous relative. The selection includes pumpkin, pecan, mincemeat, apricot tart, and Jeff Davis, a custard pie. Every once in a while, an apple or apple/cranberry makes an appearance. I'm actually hoping for something new this year, rather than the same old selection!

Back in the day--and I'm talking WAY back--there was a great pumpkin pie recipe in Gourmet magazine that had a layer of chopped hazelnuts with butter and brown sugar underneath the relatively traditional pumpkin pie filling. That hazelnut pumpkin pie has been my favorite Thanksgiving dessert for more than 30 years.

i was one of 7 children that grew up on a rice/crawfish/chicken/hog farm, when times were tough my mom made "pecan pie" using rice instead of pecans. i make the rice pie every thanksgiving because i'm truly thankful that i can afford to buy pecans.

My favorite pie is pecan but growing up my mother always made sweet potato pie. As for cake it is my mother's carrot cake. I'm going to look online for some new recipes and try to make something new. I'm not a good cook so it will be challenging but a welcomed challenge.
