T & T Supermarket Chain

My aunt has recently suggested an outing to the Canadian supermarket chain, T&T. I'd never heard of it. Has anyone here gone? Is it worth the trip?

It kinda depends on the branch you're planning to visit, and how frequent you visit other Asian grocery stores in general. I enjoy visiting T & T because it offers a wide range of products (compared to other stores) in a clean brightly lit environment. You can be sure you're not getting expired stuff that's been sitting on the shelf for eons. If you go on weekends, there's food tastings. There's also a "deli" section, which sells not-your-usual cooked Chinese food at a very reasonable price. If you like instant noodles, the T & T store I go to has an aisle and a half dedicated to this food group.

I like going to T&T in Edmonton. Where are you thinking of going? It's really big and clean. What Norlinda says seems true to me.

It is the downtown Toronto location that my aunt is interested in, since it seems to be the closest. The thing is that while I think I might like the place (I love exploring Chinatown) I'm not sure that my aunt is big on Asian food and that seems to be the selling point of the place.

I live close to the new downtown location (Cherry St) and have visited a few times. I have also been impressed. However, it is mainly an Asian supermarket. They do have quite a few "Western" food products, but the main attraction is definitely the ability to find -- in one place -- Chinese, Korean, and Japanese products that usually can only be found in scattered locations across the city. It is also a less intimidating environment than, say, Chinatown for those who are more used to Western-style supermarket shopping. Many also like the deli and bakery counters which sell prepared ready-to-eat Asian foods.

I love the one in Calgary - well, the one in NE Calgary, at any rate. If she has any interest at all in Asian food, it's a must see, but even if not, it's still pretty great. The bakery is tasty, the veggies are crazy cheap, and the seafood prices? Wow. I bought a large box of jumbo prawns with shells (legs and all) for $10. For that price at Safeway you get a small bag of small shelled one that just aren't the same quality (and can't be used for making stock later!).

If nothing else, it's really fun to walk through, especially with the samples.

I love this store, they have the best prepared foods. Sushi, dim sum, etc. Its all good. I usually go to the one in Mississauga.

They have this great snack/dish that I'm not sure what its called. Its purple and white glutinous rice rolled around fillings of your choice, I like vegetables, eel, chinese donut, and whatever else they have to choose from. It comes out looking like a giant rice sausage.

They also have some great desserts including Macha Egg tarts, ahem if Robyn is reading this.

I went. We were in a hurry. That was a mistake. It was so overwhelming. It was like being in a foreign country. The best part was watching an elderly woman wrestle a large live angry crab out of the tank into her shopping basket.
