Restaurants in Murray Hill section of New York
A friend is coming to town this weekend and staying at 37th and Lexington. Can anyone recommend some good restaurants in that neighborhood?

Josies (3rd and 37th) is always solid, but for a real treat head south to little India and go to Madras Mahal (Lex. and 27th) for dosa. Kalustyan's (Lex. and 28th) is an amazing spice and grocery store and they have my favorite falafel in their upstairs cafe. Or take a bit of a longer walk and go to Korea town on 32nd between 5th and Broadway. I used to live in Murray Hill and I miss the yummy options!

Chennai Gardens is hands-down the best Indian food I've ever eaten. The lunch buffet is all vegetarian and cheap. The restaurant is located on 27th Street, and near Lexington.

i actually live above resto! crazy!
i would recommend josie's too. it's great.
another restaurant is penelope which would be fabulous for lunch/brunch on the weekend.
for a snack go to katie roll on lexington for some indian style burritos.
i also second chennai garden....that is definitely very decent.
then of course there's dos caminos for mexican and sushi samba in the area.

I disagree on Chennai Garden - I've been there a few times and was never pleased with their food. I was raised on South Indian food and my entire family (and friends) agrees that Madras Mahal is the best in the area.
But I do agree with the recommendations for Penelope - everything there is wonderful. And Josie's is good for brunch.

a few other neighborhood favorites that i forgot to mention - les halles, friend of a farmer (love love love that place but of note - can't get a glass of wine - BYOB!!!) and in the morning walk down to Ess-a-bagel for some yummy bagel goodness.

I like Saravannaa's on 26th and Lex for Indian but Tiffin Wallah on 28th and Lex is slowly creeping up the favorite ladder.

Vezzo at 31st and Lex. Tasty thin crust pizza, casual and friendly atmosphere.

i hear resto and vezzo are both good spots. penelope is a cute brunch spot as well. not a big fan of les halles. primehouse just opened on 27th & park if you want a fancy dinner. murray hill has a lot of great spots to offer and a lot of not so great spots. banc cafe is a good spot for a beer/wine and casual dining. there is a great cantonese spot called phoenix garden on 40th just off 2nd ave, it is byob which is great with no extra fee.

Rossini's for Nothern Italian, Artisanal for French, and Grand Sichuan is excellent. Penelope is always good.
I love Pizza 33 for a quick slice.
Rare Bar & Grill isn't my favorite burger in town, but it's not bad overall. And they have some fun sides, like deep fried pickles.
