My daughter wants to be Mario Batali!

My daughter wants to be Mario Batali for Halloween. Other than the clogs and shorts, any ideas on what she could wear? I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

How about a red wig, tied in a ponytail? Also, plump up her belly with some sort of stuffing, as our friend Mario is cute, but hefty.

Red wig tied in ponytail, red/orange beard, white button down shirt tucked into khaki shorts (with some padding stuffed into the shirt, of course), and orange crocs.

And I think it's really cute that your daughter wants to be Mario Batali for Halloween. Also very telling about how chefs really are celebrities these days - I loved watching cooking shows on PBS when I was a kid, but there was no chance that I'd want to be Jeff Smith aka the Frugal Gourmet, Julia Child, Lidia Bastianich, or that old Cajun guy who made vats of gumbo and stirred them with an oar.

that Old Cajun Guy was Justin Wilson -- why wouldn't you want to wear his red suspenders and run around saying things like "chop up some of 'dem here onYONS - whoooeeee!" :-)

I'm so glad she chose someone who actually knows how to cook! You can have her carry a wooden spoon and don't forget a dish cloth! The red wig and apron (with stuffing) sounds great.

If you can find a small **plastic** bottle of extra virgin olive oil someplace, it would make a nice prop and he uses it so much, he's probably got it running through his veins. :D

That's so cute! She definitely needs the red hair in a ponytail. If you want to go all out, maybe you can plan some makeup action and make her eyebrows red with brow liner. And a chef's coat with the shorts would surely complete the look! Happy Halloween!

Doesn't he have facial hair? What's halloween without make-up or some reddish sawdust stuck to your face?!

Also, perhaps she can pass out some snacks - salumi, prosciutto, olives, etc.

Start pounding down about 5000-7000 calories per day of mortadella, caponata, and baby arugula sandwiches on ciabatta miniloaves - will probably still fall short of target, but oh what fun getting there...

Make sure she's not more "trick" than "treat".
