What's your favorite non-chocolate candy?
Since I have a huge sweet tooth, a few of my favorites are:
black licorice
peanut brittle
Jelly Bellies
caramels
Bit-O-Honey
When you are in the mood for a non-chocolate candy, what do you nibble on? Any retro candies?

Caramel in various forms/varieties
Obnoxious flavored sour candies (like SweetTarts or Sour Patch Kids)
Saltwater taffy
Starlight Mints and whatever the spearmint equivalent is
Strawberry (not cherry) licorice
I actually prefer any of these to chocolate (don't shoot me).

Starbursts and sour mix Jelly Bellys.

Similar list...........
black licorice, the softer kinds, not the ones like my van tires
almond brittle, actually I've never met a brittle I didn't like
spice gum drops, in "traditional" flavors only
salt water taffy
so many of the old fashioned candies are just not the same....Walnettos, the taffy on sticks....whatever your area called them are just faint imitations....or is that my taster?
Anything else, must be dark chocolate to come into the house

I honestly have never felt that urge! However I do have a fondness for caramel, preferably vanilla flavor, either regular or goats milk (cajeta).

sorry if its not good chocolate I'm not interested in waisting the calories. However, dried fruit is a great treat.

Divinity! (Does anyone still make it? My granny was a divinity whiz.)
hatlady at 11:15AM on 09/14/07
Non-chocolate candy? I didn't know that such a thing existed. It's chocolate or nothing for me.
Library Lady at 11:36AM on 09/14/07
Non-chocolate candy????? Does such a thing exist??
Licorice, hard peppermint or butterscotch candies.
Dughis at 11:59AM on 09/14/07
Divinity with black walnuts is from the gods. Payday candy bars. Lemon drops (surprise; see name). Peanut logs. Pralines, the soft kind better than the chewy ones. And I could go on, but won't.

Love divinity at holiday time, too! Anyone still find Necco, squirrel nut zippers or chix stix? Of course there's always tootsie rolls & life savers!

My all time favorite candy bar has always been Payday, sweet, salty, crunchy! I also really enjoy LemonHeads, Good 'N Plenty, and Sour Apple Jolly Ranchers.
Michigander at 10:36PM on 09/14/07
What about some of those non-choc holiday candies like the Valentine conversation hearts & red hots, Christmas candy canes, Easter peeps & the famous candy corn? Eat these?
JEP at 5:10AM on 09/15/07
Caramel, caramel and more caramel....
...and the occasional Chic-O-Stix.
cookbot at 1:28PM on 09/15/07
Caramel is great -- with chocolate, it's even better :-)
But my favorite non-chocolate candies are chick-o-sticks and jordan almonds -- whenever I go to an Italian wedding (a lot since that's my heritage) I end up eating everyone's!

Anyone like cotton candy or remember eating a Big Hunk?
JEP at 5:50PM on 09/15/07
I thought long and hard about this question, and then it dawned on me, I only eat candy with chocolate. Sorry Jep! ( Okay, I'll eat cotton candy, but only at a country fair)
Mich23 at 6:18PM on 09/15/07
I like to eat Irish Potato Candy, but I hate to make it.
skylar0ne at 6:40PM on 09/15/07

Pez!
Steamy Kitchen at 8:53PM on 09/15/07
Lemon drops, Pay Days, caramel in general, fruit jellies...Do Swedish gingersnaps count? Chocolate is really where it's at for me.
Christina at 12:09AM on 09/16/07
Why do most of you like to open soft candies & let them sit open to air for a couple of days before digging in----does it increase the chewiness factor?
SK---are you a Pez collector?
JEP at 5:46AM on 09/16/07

I rarely eat candy other than chocolate -- in part because of dental work. But I sure do love Jelly Bellys and the Jelly Belly factory in Fairfield, Calif. Oh the smell in there -- it's like bubble gum and cinnamon!

panda black licorice
dettling05 at 9:47PM on 09/16/07
Anyone still eat Pixy Stix, Boston Baked Beans, Milk Duds or Cracker Jacks (just to get a prize)?
JEP at 6:23AM on 09/17/07
Big fat drug store jelly beans (not jelly belly), Dots, and various Haribo gummies (favorites are Colo-rado, frogs and Build-a-Burger).
ceforrester at 12:18PM on 09/17/07
We'll have to read the reviews from the All Candy Expo to find out what the latest craze of non-chocolate candy will bring :)
JEP at 2:56PM on 09/17/07
Hmmm....non-chocolate candy huh, I'll eat Sour Patch Kids or Twizzlers (but only the Pull N' Peel kind or the Nibs, I hate regular Twizzlers). My favorite candy is English Toffee, but I guess that's covered in chocolate, damn.
