What's in your Fall salad bowl?

Now is the time for combining apples, pears, grapes & pomegranates. I roast root vegetables & add to salad greens. I'd like to experiment with grains & lentils. Do your salad recipes change with the seasons?

I like warm salads in cooler weather. Saute some onion or garlic in olive oil or bacon fat, toss in some heartier greens like escarole, endive, frissee, spinach or even julienned romaine, then hit with some nice balsamic sherry or aged red wine vinegar. Sometimes I top it with a soft egg and serve with toast and make a meal of it.
Salads like this also have the benefit if being much more wine friendly than your typical cold greens with vinaigrette.

My favorite fall salad is one with greens that are tossed with pears and thin red onion rings that have been sauteed in extra virgin olive oil and honey, the topped off with gorgonzola cheese. Mmmmm.

pears, pecorino romano cheese and concord grapes with good quality balsamic vinegar on a bed of greens

or for a lentil dish, boil down some lentils and mix with a balsamic vinegar reduction, carmelized lentils and some walnuts and serve still warm on red leaf lettuce, amazing.

My favorite salad is perfect for cold weather: baby spinach, roasted sweet potatoes, feta cheese, toasted pecans, dried cranberries, and maple vinagrette.

I made a delicious salad this weekend of Bartlett pears, blue cheese, pistachios, and dried cranberries on mesclun with a shallot vinaigrette. The perfect fall salad to me!

Anyone make unusual salads with carrots, beets, other potatoes or rice during Autumn?

"the salad"= fancy lettuce, nibbles of avocado, mandarin oranges, sugar-coated pecans, thinly sliced red onion, bits of brie, a tasty orange dressing/vinagrette.
good in any season!

I love adding slightly sturdier ingredients to my salads in the fall- pears, nuts, thick(er) slabs of cheese, or sliced chicken and beef.

Yesterday I made a kickass salad with some romaine, mcintosh apple slices, gorgonzola and some sauted onions left over from annother dish. I dressed with dash of olive oil + balsamic vinegar and then inhaled it. Yum.
