What is your favorite fast food on road trips?

You are stuck in the middle of nowhere. What do you eat?
Harvey's burger (Canada)
In and Out Burger

Frozen custard from Culver's (a must when driving through the farmlands of Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin!)

white castle, since they haven't had the bright notion to open one in my state yet, and i often travel to chicago. not to mention i crave those little belly bombs at least once a day.

There is this little place in LaPlata MD called Johnny Boys Ribs on 301 and if you are driving stop and be amazed. The owner's daughter carries on his tradition with just great great food.
This is a best kept secret.

Chick Fil A is my favorite and one of the few chain fast food joints I enjoy(we usually are driving up and down the east coast).

In-N-Out:
Cheeseburger with grilled onions, hold the sauce, tomato and mustard, with pickles and peppers. Complete the meal with a fries and a neapolitan shake (or lemonade!)

Yum, is it lunch yet? =)

A breakfast sandwich at McDonald's, either the baon-egg-cheese biscuit or the sausage-egg-cheese biscuit ... double the hash browns, and a large Minute Maid orange juice.

Well, a bit plebeian, but a Wendy's single with everything but cheese, mustard and pickle does it for me. And they're Junior Bacon Cheeseburger is a steal at 99c.

Hershey's Bar with Almonds. I generally try to stay away from fast food while on the road, since you're getting so little activity, but I can't resist chocolate and almonds...

I sit in the back of the car with a big bag of trail mix.

I third In-N-Out! In Oregon, Taco Time (we had to stop there last time in Oregon -- a nostalgia thing for my husband, who used to live there). A funny thing was when I took a road trip with my husband and a friend recently. They had never eaten at Del Taco before. I said we should stop there because it's way better than Taco Bell, and it reminded me of Taco Time. Well, to them, it wasn't like Taco Time (fries instead of tater tots, er, mexi-fries), but they really liked it anyway!

Dairy Queen - Oregon, In and Out and Taco Bell.

I like Sonic... their Limeaids and popcorn chicken are great for road trips. and I love their tater tots... yum.

I'm not going to lie. I really like Wendy's hamburgers, chicken nuggets and Spicy Chicken sandwiches!

Chew on That

Arby's roast beef sandwich with Arby's sauce. It's seriously good.

mcdonald's nuggets, i can pop the whole piece straight into my mouth, great stuff for convenience, and i don't need to worry about messy drippings all over or dirty hands.

We have a tendency to do marathon driving when we go cross-country, like mainly driving all night and into the next day when we stop and sleep. So we end up with a sort of day and a half long day. Because we are confined to the van that long, we really only eat breakfasts. Our good luck holds well for picking good breakfast places, including Lilo's in Seligman AZ.... and others that I can't name now. But once down south (we both have early childhood and early adulthood memories) and will just start drooling at Waffle Houses and in Florida, Huddle Houses. Nothing fancy, just good quantities and I like the fact that you can see eggs being broken, bacon and home fries on the grill, nothing that is not prepared fresh right in front of you.
Zapp

Sonic! Cherry limeades and tator tots and cheese sticks...
And if I am lucky to be in the Piedmont Triad (NC), Cookout. Cookout shakes are the best! Also burgers that are soooo good.

I always pack a cooler for road trips, but on the rare occasions I've had fast food, I have to agree with In and Out burger.

My long drives from Thunder Bay, Ontario, to Mississauga, Ontario (about 17 hours) were punctuated by Tim Horton's. The coffee keeps you going, and the snacks range from the very bad for you (i.e. TimBits-donut holes to the Timmie's virgins) to the relatively good for you (i.e. yogurt and berries, whole grain bagels), depending on your mood.

Sonic all the way. And in the south, Huddle House. SO much better than IHOP.

I used to love seeing Waffle Houses for the first time on trips from NY to FL. Now that I live in FL, they're a big "so what" ... LOL. If I had to pick a fast food place, it would be Checkers. OMG...The only french fries on the planet I can eat without ketchup!!

Seems my favorite In-N-Out burger is pretty popular with road trippers. I live in Texas and rarely get out to California, but when I do, its an In-N-Out rampage. I dream about these burgers and fries.

My other road food weakness is James Coney Island, roundabout Austin and Houston. The chili cheese coneys are the best dog ever, the tots are perfect and they serve beer. What more can you ask for?

Born, raised and still living in California. In'N'Out (traditional double-double with onions, fries well-done) is definitely acceptable roadtrip food. And, a few times a year we'll bring it home, usually after a yardwork marathon that runs past dinnertime (too late and too tired to cook, way too grubby to get out of the car in public).

Once in a while we'll grab Breakfast Jacks from Jack In The Box on a road trip. Or, if it's getting late and we haven't reached our planned stopping point, we'll hit Sonic if we see one along the route.

The man of the house claims to really like KFC (probably because I've never mastered fried chicken, and have basically given up on it). But, in the seven or so years I've known him, I've yet to see him actually stop there.

In general, we just don't like fast food. A "counter-service" place or diner is almost always the preferred alternative.

Oh. And, it's not fast food, but what about Cracker Barrel?
