Refrigerator magnets, do you collect?

Defined as: an ornament attached to a magnet. RM hold on to grocery lists, pictures, take-out menus & notes to SO's. I collect Coca-Cola, Pepsi, various fruits & veg, ones my grandchildren have made & other souvenirs. I have a set of magnetic poetry to devise little humorous or motivational messages to myself :) What are some of your favorites?

I collect, ahem, ones with lemons on them.

I inadvertently have a collection of "Five A Day" eat-more-fruits-and-vegetables-type magnets from Mom (why she gave them to me when I was vegan is completely a mystery). Our fridge also is decorated with Elvis magnets -- some of them clothed, others not. If we find really kitchy things when we travel, we might pick up one or two. Luckily, I stopped collecting snow globes and sold the collection EBay. People will buy anything.

The sad thing about modern appliances is many of them are covered in stainless steel. Alas, no magnets will stick. I am jealous of those who can collect them.

I don't collect them, but I sure have a lot of them!

Thanks for sharing your "magnetic attractions"!

I literally have more RM than I have refrig surface space! I need serious RM therapy counseling :) I tend to rotate mine from time to time. Oh, if they could talk, the stories they would tell.

Yep! Whenever I go on a trip somewhere it is the one cheesy souvenir I allow myself to buy.

I have a hand full and don't collect but my favorite one of all is the TV dinner. The old-time aluminum tray Swanson/Banquet chicken/corn/apples TV dinner. It's the one that gets the most attention.

If I were a collector, I'd prefer the odd-ball type of magnets

:-)

I try and collect one from every city or country I visit. The freezer on the top is for places that I've been and the fridge bottom is for places that my friends have been.

firewren---you must have a great collection; I like the division idea! I also have numerous brand name product magnets, a magnet puzzle and a few work-related ones.

Do any friends or relatives have unusal RM you admire? Do you buy for others?

Mich23, you make a good point! I never thought about that and realize that in some of my friends' houses with more modern refrigerators, they don't have magnets!

In my house on the other hand, we have a wholeee bunch. Definitely good for holding up grocery lists and pictures! We even have a magnetic notepad for shopping lists!

Yes, I do. I have a fantastic collection of the tackiest, ugliest fridge magnets. When friends/family go on vacation, it's the one thing I ask them to bring me. - the tackier it is, the better.

All in all a very inexpensive hobby---collecting RM :)

Holiday related ones?

I don't collect magnets, and don't really like when a bunch of mismatched magnets clutter up the refrigerator (even though every single refrigerator I've lived with has looked like this!). Most of my magnets are from random pizza delivery places. My favorite magnet is my Zyliss Clipeez magnet which I use to clip recipes to the refrigerator while I'm cooking.

Our kitchen cabinets are the perfect metal for magnets. We have soooo many. My favorites are ducks that appear to be flying out of the cabinets with wings that really flap & the Imperial bottle opener we picked up in Costa Rica. The useful ones are clips that keep my recipes at eye level when I'm cooking. Yeah for magnets!

Love RM,only rare once.

My RM's are limited to a few that hubby made for me, carved out of wood, a lamb, a fish. Also one magnetic picture frame and the whole rest of the freezer section is filled with GLOW in the DARK Refrigerator Poetry.....and hubby and I can sometimes be found just standing in front of the closed frig reworking our little fantasy stories......nut cases, that's us. We don't require that it be poetry, just weird stories........

Seems like we all have good memories behind these liitle magnets :)

dmzapp---I find myself creating all sorts of crazy sayings with my set of words----have you seen those sets that are made for ex: dog lovers, artists, etc? I have given these as gifts many times. I bought a "first words for kids" for my youngest grandson who is 4.

I do not collect them. I do not have any. My stainless steel refrigerator is devoid of any decoration. I didn't want to scratch it.
