New York Pizza - which one?
I'll be in New York City for the first time in 10 days and want to eat some famous pizza! Just a simple kind like Margarita. Any suggestions? Thanks!

You should search Adam Kuban's site, Slice NY (slice.seriouseats.com). Otherwise I've heard lots of good stuff about Lucali, Grimaldi's, and Di Fara. Good luck!

Thanks! Great site! I noticed some good recommendations on pizza places located in the Bronx or Brooklyn. I'll keep the places you mentioned handy...
Lombardi's and Otto's are a couple of places I wouldn't mind trying
:-)

Ah, cross the Hudson into Hoboken and go to Benny Tudino's at 7th and Washington. I lived in NYC for decades, but Benny's pizza is the best. The slices are big, thin and yummy. And Hoboken (just 10 mins. from the West Side on the PATH train, which costs a buck and a half) is cute. People come here for Arthur's Steakhouse too (3rd & Washington).
But in NYC itself, the best I found is Pete's-a-Place on 14th and A in the East Village.

Patsy's in East Harlem (the original), Di Fara (Brooklyn), Una Pizza Napoletana (Manhattan) would be my top picks.
Lombardi's, while not on the top of my personal list, won't steer you wrong if you don't have the time or inclination to travel far off the beaten path. It's the first New York pie I ever tried and remains a sentimental favorite of mine.

Mmmm - thanks! Una Pizza Napoletana will have to be my first try....(since I'll be in Manhattan)
All of them Delicious!

Una Pizza Napoletana, while really good, isn't standard NY pizza, nor can you get slices there.
I vote for Sal's on 1st Avenue near 7th St - definitely favorite NYC slice. Pete's -a-place is really good, too - probably 3rd on my list. :)

Bleecker Street Pizza - on the corner of Bleecker and 7th Ave. Try the Nonna Maria slice.

You can get the best plain pizza at Sal's on Amsterdam ave between 73rd and 74th street. Only the plain pizza. Which is - amazing. Not a fan of anything else. The place isn't famous, it's just a regular hole in the wall joint. I didn't realize that anyone outside my immediate group even knew about the place. Then one day, I'm online arguing the merits of MY unknown pizza place with this woman in DC who used to live here, reminiscing about hers. Turned out to be the same place. Which was pretty awesome.

It may not be the first pizza ever made in New York or even be made in a charcoal oven, but their's a pizza place on 91st between 5th and Madison that has fantastic slices. Almost all ingredients are organic (including the crust) and the toppings are both standard and unique--such as their homemade chorizo--yum!

Every pie I've had at Totonno's in Coney Island has been spectacular. I'm also a big fan of Lucali's in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn.

I believe the best Pizza in New York (and perhaps the US) is in Brooklyn at L&B Spumoni Gardens, in Bensonhurst.

L&B garden's has the best sicilian slice there is in NYC. As a child I lived in Gravesend and we used to head over to L&B's on warm summer nights to get the best damn slice there ever was.
Now I live in Savannah, Ga and when I make my sojourns to NYC to visit family that is a mandatory stop.
In Staten Island, the best pizza is BROTHERS! Made famous on the Food Network Bobby Flay Showdown, Brothers is the most amazing pizza there is. There mozzerella sticks and chicken rolls can't be beat either.
