Need help finding a new food processor.

I'm looking for a large (16 cup) processor, but there aren't a lot of choices, and I'm not sure which to purchase. Which do you use, and why?

I've heard great things about both Kitchen Aids and Cuisinarts.

My mom had a robot coupe for over 20 years. It was a beast. My sister and I got an apartment together and destroyed it in about 6 months. I still haven't forgiven myself. I replaced it with a cuisinart pro custom 11" and have had good results.

I have a friend that swears by his KitchenAid Pro-line series (I want to say it's the 850, but I can't swear to that). I've seen him abuse that thing and it keeps plugging along. A quick Froogle of these bad-boys shows you're going to pay a bit for a 16-cup model, ($350-$400).

Thanks, folks. I'm willing to pay a bit more for the quality and size, if necessary.

Only a 12-cup but I love my new KitchenAid wide mouth. Love the size, love the mini bowl option. I've used it for everything from dough to slicing skin on sweet potatoes and shredding cabbage--not a problem I can find with it!

I researched what I wanted from Cuisinart and KitchenAid websites (the only 2 brands I personally would buy an FP from), you might find good comparisons there. Good luck!

You could always go straight to the source and purchase a Robo Coupe. Take a look at the R401. It's definitely the most powerful and largest I've ever witnessed! If you need a serious processor, these are the way to go...

Thanks for the tips. Thanks Dominic for sharing about the Robo Coupe. I'll go check it out!

I'd been looking at KitchenAid, Cuisinart and Magimix, but I had no personal reports on the third. Anyone use one of those?

Magimix is the domestic version of Robo Coupe. Check out this wikipedia entry for a quick history.

I still have and use a 34 year old Robot Coupe. I priced a Robot Coupe US to get a larger machine, but the price is horrendous. My daughter uses a Kitchen Aid and it's a good machine.

Robo Coupe. Go to your local restaurant supply house. You will pay, but your grandchildren will still be using it.

On the (very) cheap side - for my father's salads I picked up a Hamilton Beach that dumps directly into glad containers.
