Mayo or Miracle Whip?

A question every new household has to solve. Thankfully Best Foods mayo prevailed in ours! What about yours? Does the label matter to you?

Hellmann's mayo is my chioce

Gotta be Hellman's. I grew up on Miracle Whip, and can't stand it! Mom says Miracle Whip is all she likes, and they never buy anything else ... but then, when I make her own ground bologna sandwich spread, she comments on how much better mine is than hers. Go figure ... ;-)

Both, in their place.

Is there really any question? If you need 'tangy zip" add lemon, picles, or mustard to your mayo.

Am I right to understand that Best Foods and Hellman's is the same product under different labels?

Best Foods and Hellman's are the same thing. Both their jingles are "Bring out the ____, and bring out the best." I won't buy anything else!

if it HAS to be mayo, it has t be hellman's real mayo in my house.

From what I understand, Best Foods and Hellman's are the same exact product, sold under different names in different parts of the country. My boyfriend will ONLY eat Hellman's (he grew up in NY) and I had never even heard of the stuff. Turns out, my mom had been buying Best Foods all those years, and it was the same thing. I forget where we eventually learned this... an episode of America's Test Kitchen, perhaps?

For me, Best Foods/Hellman's lite mayo. Miracle Whip is good for tuna sandwiches, though.

To my knowledge, I have never eaten Miracle Whip. Weird.

I am ashamed to admit that I LOVE LOVE LOVE Miracle Whip. I grew up on it. I spent 7 years living in England when I was little, we would take yearly trips back to the U.S to visit family and my sisters and I would make my parents lug back 3 giant gallon containers of Miracle Whip because we couldn't get it in England. It would last us almost the entire year. Miracle Whip doesn't go bad, it's indestructible. Thank god the containers never burst in the luggage:)

I'm not actually sure what Miracle Whip is. I live in England and the Netherlands, and it doesn't exist in either place. I like Hellman's, and I like proper Dutch mayonnaise (Calve or Remia) and fritessaus (the absolute trashiest - Gouda's Glorie), and I also like salad cream, which is a bit tangier than normal mayonniase. Yeah.... The whole mayo family, basically - I'm a massive fan.

Hellman's. All the way.

Well, if all you have is commercial mayo of whatever brand and you want MW for something, for every cup of mayo, stir in a tablespoonful of sugar and a tablespoonful of vinegar to get a close approximation.

Hellman's full fat

Hellman's Mayo

Miracle Whip is served in the 7th circle of hell alongside jello salads.

There's only one thing that miracle whip is good for, and that's my grandmother's potato salad recipe. For everything else, it's real mayonnaise.

I should add that miracle whip contains sugar, which means that they really aren't and shouldn't be considered interchangeable.

It used to be Hellmann's until I read the actual ingredients on the label, SCARY...I am still shopping around for the best organic replacement. Currently we are using Whole Foods brand I think.

i used to think i hated tuna salad...but then i realized what i actually hated was miracle whip.

that stuff is NASTY.

Dukes all the way!
(Hellmans north of the Mason Dixon line.)

Neither! It's Kewpie brand mayo for me. I willingly shell out $7 for it, since I only buy it once or twice a year. It's got an amazing savory edge to it.

mayo - homemade!

Best aka Hellmans (in the east) hands down.

Make mine mayo and make it Hellman's. There is no second place.

Dukes or Blue Plate when I can find it.
