I like the taste of slightly burnt____

Sometimes, charred or slightly burnt morsels mean taste perfection!

A few of my favorites:

marshmallows toasted over a campfire
roasted vegetables like potatoes & brussels sprouts
grilled peanut butter & honey sandwiches
pizza crust edges
grilled corn-on-the-cob

What extra-crispy, nearly burnt or charred tibits do you savor?

charred steak on both sides that is still rare inside.
A decent (non-fast food pizza hut/etc) pizza crust.

Pizza crust, charred steak, grilled cheese (burnt cheese of any kind, in fact), toast, frozen waffles (oh, shut up!). I could go on and on...I LOVE burnt!

torillas. I always burn them on the gas stovetop before filling them with fajita cicken and peppers or beans and rice.

I second pizza crust and cheese. I also like some slightly burnt potatoes in my home fries.

This has awakened a childhood memory. My mother had some kind of metal toaster that she used on the gas stovetop. It crimped the edges of a sandwich together. The edges of the grilled cheese sandwich would be crisp and slightly burned. Heaven was an apricot-pineapple jam sandwich. The jam was homemade and the burned, buttery crust and it were a heavenly combination.

Thanks for sharing---burnt is sometimes the best part!

Do any of you have friends or family that eat slightly burnt things that make you cringe?

i love slightly burnt brussel sprouts. I also loved slightly burnt cheese on toast before I went vegan.
I get creeped out with the burnt marshmallows. I think I had a bad experience with one on a camping trip which has scarred me for life

Pizza crust.

John eats the burnt popcorn. Ick.

gotta admit i love just very slightly scorched popcorn. (puts on the blindfold and stands for the firing squad)

Cookies! I would take a slightly burnt chocolate chip cookie over a perfectly baked one any day.

No firing squad here--I second that *slightly* burnt popcorn--just as long as it's mostly not burned...it adds a little flavor accent.
Love burnt cheese on cheese toast, and pizza with some overdone parts too.

Potato Chips

Anything! I like my pizza crusts so burnt that when I once ordered one from a Pizza Hut (I was desparate, okay?) they made me talk to the manager to make sure that I wouldn't turn it down, if they really burnt it. :) I thought that he would even make me sign a waiver! Although, this does nto apply to meat. I like my fish raw (sushi) and my beef medium at the most.

But a great grilled cheese sandwich, in my opinion, should always have a little char on it! ;)

Mmm, slightly burnt popcorn, and singed chocolate-chip cookies. And marshmallows- my mother has the knack of making them perfectly golden brown and unctuous through-and-through, but I prefer mine charred, with the outside slipping off in gooey bits. Burnt tortillas, too. I don't yank them off the burner 'til I see crunchy charcoal-y bits.

Anything with cheese - the crunchy bits are the best part of lasagne in my mind. Also seconding rice, but only lightly. And I like french fries well done, though not quite burnt.

popcorn
charred onions and peppers for mexican dishes
pizza crust for sure

french fries. i'm the weirdo who picks out the ugliest, brownest, skinniest fries outta the bunch to eat first.

I love slightly burn rice, especially rice made with a rice cooker because then it comes out easily and if you fold the piece in half you get a yummy rice sandwich (seasoning optional! sometimes i like to put some nori in before folding)

Thanks for explaining how you eat burnt rice---seems to be liked by alot of SE!

Any meat lovers who like the burnt ends?

The burnt part at the bottom of the pot when you make sticky rice- the best! I prefer that part than the good part.

-grilled corn
-slightly burnt roasted soybeans
-creme brulee, top part only
-burnt sugar ice cream from Toscanini's (Cambridge, MA)

Burnt ends on BBQ'd brisket and the burnt edges on mac n' cheese.

Burned bacon! Overcooked, near-charred, anything but solid black in color.

The comments about burned rice remind me that the Persians favor the same thing. There is a word for the flavorful parts that get stuck on the pan, and they are considered a delicacy. I've always wanted to try it.

But did I mention burned bacon? Makes my mouth water just to think of it.

meat! any type of meat tastes better with charred spots.

a properly blackened steak with a nice crust on the outside and rare on the inside is one of my small pleasures. i serve it with eggs fried over easy and toasted garlic french bread. blackened catfish are very good also but you have very little room for error.

When I order a latte, I request the milk be steamed to at least 190 degrees. The barista's always bulk saying the milk will burn! I must like that carmelized flavored milk :)

Grilled cheese

I also had some grilled fruit, peaches & plums that were charred to deliciousness!
