Do you hurt your stomach's feelings?

When I'm angry, feeling frustrated, discouraged or feeling sad, my stomach starts churning. Other times, eating too much or too little, irregular meal times or just not tolerating what I chose to eat causes indigestion. My cure is usually a bowl of warm oatmeal, toast or applesauce. How do you cope with a stomachache?

Interesting question! Yogurt is my number one go-to food when I have a stomachache. Or, if I don't feel like eating, I'll have a cup of peppermint tea.

My husband has some ongoing tummy problems. He was just saying the one thing that always settles his stomach is a beer. Unfortunately, it isn't always appropriate to drink one.

I eat a tums lol Sometimes I'll brew some Ginger Root Tea though. Or chew a piece of peppermint gum.

producestories--I agree with the plain yogurt (Fage) & hot tea.

SE, what food source do you like but regret after eating?

I have chronic and debilitating digestive problems, so this is a topic dear to my heart. I stand by ginger tea. If I need something with a little more bulk, I have quinoa porridge made with a little salt.

I have had colitis for years. It acts up when my nerves are bad. I use oatmeal and yogurt with active cultures to calm it back down. Always works like a charm.

Chronic IBS for years, here. I rarely limit my diet, other than portion control, but when I am having a flare-up I find that ginger tea, peppermint tea, scrambled eggs, and plain toast are gentle and soothing on my stomach.

I eat spicy things. The spicier the better. If I'm really nauseous, I have been known to just squirt some sirachi sauce in a spoon and take it straight. My tummy feels better almost instantly.

To my considerable relief, my stomach behaves well. It had bloody well better not act like its feelings are hurt, as good as I am to it, for the most part. Tasty food, a judicious amount of good wine, a nice mixture of various kinds of things, albeit with a certain leaning towards protein - yes, it's a very well-fed stomach, and it seems to appreciate that. It would be my feelings that would be hurt if it were ungrateful.

(And deep sympathy to those unlucky enough to not have a cooperative digestive system. )

I love this question because I'm having a serious problem. I absolutely adore zucchini but last year I developed some sort of weird intolerance to it. It makes me feel really bloated and a little nauseated for the rest of the day. The funny part is, I keep eating it hoping it's a phase - I have no sympathy for myself. Does anyone know how something like that can develop after years of eating a certain food without issue?

And ginger tea - absolutely the best!

I had food poisoning two days ago (on top of a chest cold, no less), and I survived by clutching my stomach and eating whole wheat toast with pumpkin butter. Usually, I figure toast is a safe bet, as well as Saltines, applesauce, and some sort of warm cereal.

I'm frequently lactose intolerant (it seems to come and go), so I often end up adding milk to my coffee, a slice of cheese to my hamburger, or milk to my cereal and regretting it. Somehow I never end up buying lactose-free milk for myself, though it IS delicious!

When I try drinking an extra cup of coffee, my stomach always protests :(

Chamomile Tea freshly brewed is an excellent stomach relaxer.

Anytime I eat more than a coffee-splash amount of non-yogurt dairy, I regret it very quickly afterwards...and sweets tend to give me a sour stomach as well. Ice cream, much as I adore it, is therefore pretty much the worst thing I can eat. I shared a small sundae two nights ago and I'm still recovering!

I always regret eating fried food at restaurants. My cure for the ailing stomach is very strong ginger tea.

Am currently on a bland diet due to a flare-up of IBS. Count me among the oatmeal-yoghurt-dry whole grain toast group, with a cup of decaf green tea. So far, so good . . .

After years of downing gallons upon gallons of coffee and other coffee-based products, my stomach has declared war upon me. I stopped drinking coffee and sodas, and my stomach is happier for it. I, on the other hand, am utterly miserable. I can, though, drink a mug or two of decaf black tea with lots of Lactaid milk and a little sugar. It's a small consolation.

I sure do miss my coffee, though.

I concur with the peppermint tea, saltines, dry toast recommendations. Gingerale also seems to help me (I think its mainly a memory from childhood-it was the drink I always got when I was sick). I can't stomach dairy or meat when I'm queasy. Clear soup seems to do the trick sometimes...

Whenever I eat too much fried or cheesy foods, or prepared/processed meats (i.e. cold cuts, mass produced sausages), I pay the price... It's sad because pizza makes my belly ache.

lorelei76---I have to agree with the soda theory---about 2 yrs ago I went cold turkey (drank Pepsi One & diet Mt. Dew)---my stomach appreciated my decision!

Littlebluesiren---raw zucchini? Sometimes I tolerate cooked veg. in general more than the raw.

for an upset tummy i usually go with sleepytime tea (pepermint and chamomile) sometimes warm milk and if I need solid food I go with saltines with a little hot mustard. i dont have any problems with spicy foods but fried anything makes for a really bad day!

My stomach is like a rock .. nothing ever bothers it except for overeating, which I very much try not to do. But in the rare event of a stomach upset, I like to nibble on some candied ginger.

Diagnosed with IBS about 25 years ago (acutally, back then it was called spastic colon). Saltines, pretzels and toast are definitely on the list, along with white rice, cream of wheat or grits. Nothing sweet when I'm nauseated. Must be salty. Tomato or chicken soup are other go-to items. Sometimes, counterintuitively, a glass of ice cold milk (Stremick's Heritage) is the only thing that sounds good. Have a miserable time digesting oats, so that's out.

Same as above for intestinal virus.

Ordinary indigestion/overeating -- wine or coffee seem to help. Weird, I know, but it seems to work.

Drinking too much -- it's been a really long time, but I remember greay fries and a double-double from In'n'Out always did the trick.

Hmm I used to get stomachaches a lot and all I would want to do was lay down with a heating pad (don't worry, I'm not referring to those kind of stomachaches). If I could even stomach anything, it would be a cup of hot tea.
