Chocolate cake recipe??
I need a good chocolate cake recipe; I've tried lots of recipes, and all (outside of a torte) are too dry, or not chocolatey enough for my taste....

I have a recipe for dark chocolate cupcakes that I think is great - so does everyone I make them for! I also give times for 8" and 9" round as well as 9x13 for the same batter.
I think the use of dutch chocolate makes a huge difference in the "chocolatiness" of the final product.
Hope it helps!

Use good dutch process cocoa powder. Also make sure to throw in some espresso or strong coffee for depth of flavor. Buttermilk adds richness.

I make chocolate cupcakes using the Barefoot Contessa recipe that has peanutbutter frosting. This can be used for cake, but you may want to make it more chocolatey. She also has a recipe for "Beatty's" chocolate cake, which I have not tried, but I've baked so many of her recipes, I'm sure it is delicious. Both of these recipes are in her new cookbook, "The Barefoot Contessa at Home".

I have never liked Coke, but Coca-Cola cake is wonderful! I believe the recipe originated during World War II when sugar was rationed. Without tasting the Coke at all, this cake is rich and moist. The Coca-Cola website has a recipe, but I'm sure there are plenty more out there on blogs and such.

You can also go to allrecipes.com, and check out what they have. Each recipe has a rating and comments by people who have made the recipe. I have made a number of things from here, and I found them accurate and reliable.

I have a recipe that I just made the other day for a bundt cake, and it involves sour cream and espresso powder, which seriously helps with flavor. I second Jerzee Tomato about buttermilk; many recipes with that are bound to be good. If you want the recipe, please let me know and I can email it to you.

I know Emeril isnt very popular, but his recipe for a flourless chocolate cake is amazing! its just chocolate butter eggs and a little sugar and espresso. I only make it when someone outside the house requests it because otherwise I could eat at least half!

Have you tried the recipe on the back of the Hershey's cocoa powder can? It is moist, chocolatey and very easy to make. Pair it with the frosting recipe they provide and you'll be loved forever. Double the frosting recipe- a single batch just isn't enough!

Would you consider trying a chocolate mayonnaise cake? You replace the butter with mayonnaise. I've tried it a few times and it always comes out pleasantly heavy and rich and supermoist...this is the recipe I've used.
1 cup sugar
1 cup real mayonnaise
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups cake flour
1/2 cup Dutch process cocoa
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup buttermilk
Confectioners' sugar, for garnish
Sweetened whipped cream, for garnish
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In the bowl of an electric mixer, beat the sugar and mayonnaise until blended. Add the vanilla and blend. Sift together the flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt and add it to the mayonnaise mixture in 3 batches alternating with the buttermilk.
Pour into a greased and floured 9 by 9 by 2-inch baking pan. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes or until a cake tester comes out clean.
Let cool on a wire rack, dust with confectioners' sugar and garnish with whipped cream before serving.

I made Chocolate Layer Cake with Milk Chocolate Frosting for my daughter's 16th birthday. I'm no baker but this recipe was easy to follow and made the BEST chocolate birthday cake!! I urge you to try it!! I'm a fan of dark chocolate and was leery of the Milk Chocolate Frosting. Never fear. This cake is the epitome of chocolaty goodness.

My favorite recently was an Oatmeal Stout chocolate cake served by our local brewery, Silver Gulch. Very moist & dense. It didn't need frosting, they just drizzled the top with chocolate sauce & my beer-hating husband was fighting me for the last bites!

I would have to disagree with the Coca-Cola recipe. Someone made a cake using that recipe at a Labor Day gathering I went to, and the cake was really missing... something. I don't know; it just didn't do it for me!
To help strengthen the chocolate flavor, you can always add a little instant coffee (plain) to the batter. I would recommend the old-fashioned chocolate cake recipe from America's Test Kitchen. The method they use to make a moist, rich cake is fantastic, and you will find it difficult to believe that this method is no longer common. Makes a beautiful cake!

America's Test Kitchen DOES have good options, we had their quick cinnamon rolls this morning...
