Someday, I would like to have a _____ growing in my backyard

This is up for discussion on Andrea's Recipe blog. Basically, any plant with a culinary use....would you want a cherry, apple or lemon tree? Your own avocados or a tree to keep you supplied with maple syrup? Black raspberry bushes? Bay leaves? By the number of corn lovers comments, I think some of you would like your own corn field! I would choose a pecan tree. What culinary plant would you like in your yard?

A persimmon tree. :)

A gooseberry bush...

The thing I would like most in my yard for culinary reasons is a gardener!

I want a fig tree! I live in the right climate but I have no place to put a tree. Also, I want a jujube (Chinese date) just because I like saying the name.

I would love an apple tree because once fall hits, I wouldn't have to worry about getting enough apples at the grocery store. (And if JEP's question were about a non-culinary plant, I would definitely wish for a money tree.)

Mango tree! Oh that would be heaven indeed.

If I had a garden, I would love to grow just about anything. Apricots, herbs, figs, beans, potatoes, salad leaves, spinich, pumkpkins, figs and garlic. You can tell that I am an urbanite with green belt intentions. Ohh arrr.

Isn't there such a thing as a beer garden? I'd like to grow one of those.

A bacon tree.

mmm, a buffalo mozzarella tree!
Realistically though, a wildly flourishing basil plant (my backyard doesn't get much sun, so nothing I plant ever succeeds) and a carrot patch (I can eat a 2 pound bag a day)

Leave it to us SE fans to come up with unique & funny answers! Love the money tree, beer garden & bacon tree ideas!

I'd add coconut grove & a banana tree to my yard.

What other culinary plant would you have growing in your backyard?

Dish washer

ok, I mean Meyer Lemon Tree

an avocado tree. and a gigantic raspberry bush. plus a money tree.

The ingredients to make salsa -- jalapeno and regular chile peppers, tomatoes and onions! Also, cucumbers and basil. (Cucumbers cost a lot at Bay Area super markets.) An apple tree sounds cool. And a palm tree for my husband.

meyer lemons would be awesome. also, i would love and endless supply of fresh thyme. i use it everytime i cook.
then again, scallions are endlessly usefull and fresh parsley, chives, or chervil.
yeah, a huge herb garden thats what i would want. plus the lemons.

Some coconut palms would be perfect! But that is not going to happen in the Northeast...

I second the bacon tree idea!

I would love an avocado tree, a mango tree and a cherry tree. And a gorgeous man servant tree.

Oooh...so tough. Do we have to pick just one? Heh, I would go with tomato and basil plants so I could have endless supplies of Capresi salad ingredients...Mmmm...

Oh. And for the non-existent impossible kind: a sushi tree.....I would like endless amounts of sushi too.
