Simple Glazed Cake. nothing finer.

strawberry jelly!!!!

[homer]Mmmmm ... crullers ... [/homer]

buttermilk cake dunked in good espresso!

I love any kind of fritter!

I wouldn't turn anything down from Dunkin Donuts, but my favorite is a cruller, plain glazed or chocolate glazed.

Chocolate walnut crunch

I worked at a bakery in high school, the owner / baker was a 70-year-old ex-Marine who KNEW. HIS. DONUTS. He made the best fried cinnamon rolls I have ever or will ever have. Plain glazed fried cinnamon rolls were ok, but there were white-iced ones rolled in buttercrunch, and also white-iced ones with a chocolate drop on top....makes me miss the old days!

glazed old fashioned sour cream

Dunkin Donuts glazed followed by a peanut crusted donut. Do they still make those?

A maple long john... Yum!

It's hard to beat a hot, glazed Krispy Kreme doughnut.

A free one!

chocolate covered chocolate from Dunkin'.

unglazed kruller

Like Alaina, I'm firmly in the Krispy Kreme kamp ;-). Hot, fresh, plain old glazed can't be beat.

glazed, preferably warm donut holes!!! Bite sized morsels of perfection!!! Krispy Kreme's are good, but if ever in Texas, try Southern Maid too!

I went to school in Blacksburg, VA, and there was a donut shop called Carol Lee's right off campus. They had absolutely divine chocolate covered cake donuts that were dipped in chopped peanuts. The moist cake and crunchy peanut was to die for. Mmmmm....

Hot Krispy Kreme doughnuts - yum, yum, yum.

Well obviously the Krispy Kreme hot plain glazed one, but also the delightful boston creme (plain donut, iced with chocolate sugar icing and filled with vanilla custard) available from the 911 shop in University College Dublin (the best university in Ireland!). It's right under the library and studying is so tough when you're so close to the deliciousness!

long john filled w/vanilla cream

seldom indulge, but when I do......it is chocolate frosted and has a cream filling. Now I am drooling. Crullers are a very, very close second. I assess which looks better the moment before I choose, but normally the chocolate frosted ones win.

Plain. Glazed. Chocolate. Cake. DIVINE.

I love sour cream!

I make a yeasted doughnut dough that has orange zest and nutmeg in it. Immediately after frying (in lard of course), I toss the fried pieces of heaven in cinnamon-sugar. I could eat a whole batch!

Just chocolate frosted with sprinkles on it! :)

Chew on That

The glazed pumpkin ones from Krispy Kreme that they only have during the fall. The Krispy Kreme in my city just closed, and the only other one in Minnesota is FAR away. What am I going to do?!

Chocolate creme-filled, preferably without powdered sugar.

Hard to choose. A warm Krispy Kreme is a thing of beauty, but I think their other flavors are inconsistent. There's a place called Lamar's that's based in Kansas City that at least used to make an apricot jelly doughnut that was fabulous. All other things being equal, I waver between what's variously called an old-fashioned, a buttermilk or sour cream doughnut, and the ridged ones that are known by several names, too - French doughnuts, and crullers. (Do they have egg in them like a popover or choux paste batter? Is that why they're so airy and a little chewy?)
