Veselka - 2nd Ave and 8th St. They can seat any number of people. It's a Ukrainian diner, so it's not fancy, but the food is excellent, the service is good, and it's a quintessentially "New York" place, which is always nice for friends from out of town.

If your group is not pork averse I recommend reserving the Bo Ssam at Momofuku Ssam Bar. It's a whole butt of pork that is slow roasted to make it super tender and moist. You get oysters and other accompaniments. Soooo good. It's a bit pricey - I think $180 but it feeds 12 easily so a very good deal for a large group. They also have fish and other goodies for those who might want more than pork.

Try Il Buco on Bond St. near Lafayette. I had a birthday party there, it was great- the food, and the whole vibe of the place. If you want a quieter dinner, ask to sit in the wine cellar, it feels like you're having a dinner in Italy.

If you want something more uptown, Amber is in the 80s, they have good sushi and teriyaki, and they're awesome with big groups (they have a back room, and while your groups probably wont be the only tables seated there, you can at least be somewhat separated and as loud as you want.)
