Do you eat in your car?

My husband just bought a new car and set the rule early -- no eating in the car except carrots or things you can pop in your mouth directly without making crumbs or sticky fingers, etc. Do you have a similar rule? (My car is 10 years old and has organic Nectar bars in the glove compartment, so you know where I stand on this.)

I'm on your side, kiddo. And I'll bet your car is cleaner than the average fast-food restaurant at lunch time, too.

Only drink coffee or water in the car. Don't do any long distance driving so really have no need to snack or eat meals en route.

food in the car is a big nono to me. Not because of sticky fingers or crumbs, but because I think food should be enjoyed, not just inhaled while driving. Even driving across country, I pack a cooler and picnic set. when its time to eat, I find a rest area or similar place and set out to enjoy a good relaxing meal. Gives me less stress and indigestion.

I'm wondering if the people who do not allow food in their cars also do not have dogs.
I have water in my car all the time. Food is rare, but not a no-no. Crumbs are a whole lot easier to clean up than dog hair!

I'm with you Chef Tori. Water is fine. Food can only be eaten in the car when it can't be helped and it can't be messy. NO ketchup! And I I don't have any pets (other than fish).

I am generally of the "no eating in the car" school--but sometimes it just can't be helped--however, nothing that drips or plops--crumbs can be dealt with with and drinks, as long as the container has a lid or cap are fine, if not...it's a no go. My car is only one year old and I set the rules early on. I am of the mind that if you are taking a long car trip, a rest stop to eat is good for both passenger and driver.

To Chef Tori... we do have a dog and he travels in the car, on his special blanket and rarely, gets dog hair on the seat and if he does, there are great lint brushes out there to get rid of it.

EEK! I hate eating in car. I agree that eating should be something done intentionally, not just something to be inhaled on the way from Point A to Point B. On a road trip, a bag of chips or something while reading / driving / listening to music is OK, but an entire meal...no thanks.

Shhh come close...my husband's SUV is a starbucks on wheels. It is covered with coffee. He has dribbled, spilled and splashed coffee in the interior. We clean this often but the smell is never going away. He did the same thing with his last car.
My car is prisitine and it is going to stay that way. There is no eating in it. There is only capped drinks, usually only me. I keep my cars nice. I get a new car every 3 years and when I turn them in they are always in great condition.

Thanks, Friends.

Glad I asked!

John and I talked about it again since we'll be taking a long road trip up to Acadia National Park (Maine) in a month. We always take a large cooler that can be plugged in as a mini fridge filled with our favorite foods from home that require refrigeration. We decided that we'll plan periodic stops along the way to dine at scenic locales (whether enjoying our homemade food or from a restaurant).

Generally, I only drink in the car (mostly water, but sometimes coffee). I too think that food should be enjoyed on it's own and while driving I cannot do that. However, I do break that rule--but will have either a piece of fruit or an energy bar. We have dogs...so keeping the car clean can be a challenge.
