Eh...no... Switch to a good wine or good beer. I'll take beer breath any day over ciggie breath...just sayin'! ;)
I *do* think cigs can taint your taste buds regarding food... I love to eat food and taste every top note and low note... I hope you quit...you'll be a much happier camper for it. (((Supportive hugs)))

Yeah, I hate to admit it, but I smoke. I've quit a thousand times, but I always go back. And Cheffy? It's always, ALWAYS been when I've gone back to a "good wine or good beer." I hate it, but that's just the way I roll apparently. I'm working on it though. I'm sure it dulls my taste buds but that just means that the food I cook is never bland.
I don't currently have one, but when I do, I don't want my lover to smell that . I smoke about two packs a day. Doral Menthol Lights. Thanks for asking.

I used to smoke heavily (for 35 years) but stopped some time back when I got to choose between life and smoking. I remember what it was like to get my first pair of glasses. I saw things that I didn't know existed and roamed around town marvelling at all the things I was seeing "for the first time". When I quit with the smokes, I started tasting things like never before as well! Yes, my seasoning techniques changed too, and I think for the better
I feel your pain; kicking the habit is a tough task but believe me well worth it... My brand was Pall Mall (a pack a day); non-filtered but no more threatening than those that are.

Only 48 hours from your last cig until your senses of taste and smell improve - not only from the non-cig-breath, but also from increased circulation.

I smoked for 20 years and quit cold turkey 14 years ago. Best thing I ever did! I smoked the lightest available--Carlton Box 100s--but it didn't matter. It absolutely affected my nasopharyngeal system and therefore my palate (profoundly). When I quit I started cooking seriously, and now I'm a cookbook author and I cook nearly every day, when I'm not reviewing restaurants. Really, KBear, quitting makes a major, major difference. I hadn't smelled fresh-cut grass in 20 years, let alone really tasted béarnaise. Good luck!

I still think it is messed up that so many chefs smoke. How in the hell can you properly taste food when you've destroyed your senses? And as enhf94 mentioned above, yes, after 48 hrs your senses improve, but I'm pretty sure that most chefs who smoke don't smoke only every 48 hrs.

Not while cooking, let's hope! Reminds me of Cookie, the army cook in Beetle Bailey, smoking over a huge stew pot.

Ehh...I go through pack or two every moth...not bad! Unless Im working on a movie, in which its more like 1 or 2 a week...but film food on-set is so terrible its probably worth it to ruin your taste buds to not deal with it!
