Croissants in NYC?

Where can I get me some exceptional croissants in NYC? The only place I know to be consistently awesome is Almondine Bakery in Brooklyn, but I'll gladly take any suggestions.

Anything bread-y is great at Eli Zabar's stores on Madison Avenue, Third avenue, and 90th street (also packaged at some other gourmet stores). His croissants might not reach the highest heights of Patisian goodness, but they are dependably buttery, flaky, not greasy and suitable to all croissant uses, from a light filling to dunking on one's cafe au lait.

Silver Moon Bakery on 105th and b'way.

Balthazar on Spring. The entire bakery (next to the restaurant of the same name) will make you weak in the knees.

I'd say Ceci-Cela. Or Patisserie Claude.

A friend of mine eats a chocolate croissant at the Columbus bakery on Columbus and 83rd every Monday morning on her day off. She swears by it. I interned at Soutine bakery on 70th St. and I remember eating a delicious chocolate croissant there.

Chocolate croissants from Baked in Red Hook, Brooklyn are consistently fantastic! They also serve them at the Coffee Den, on Hicks and Union.

I do like the pain au chocolat at City Bakery. The pastry is quite good though, as is the case with most things there, it's all about the chocolate.
